Elementary Teacher (Grades 4–6)
Location: UME Preparatory Academy
Reports To: Campus Principal
Position Summary
UME Preparatory Academy is seeking certified elementary teachers (Grades 4–6) to join our candidate pool for current and future openings. Selected candidates will provide high-quality instruction aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), supporting students in developing strong academic foundations in core content areas while preparing them for upper-grade success and college and career readiness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver daily instruction aligned to TEKS for Grades 4–6
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans across core subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies
- Promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning skills
- Create a structured, positive, and engaging classroom environment
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance in Skyward
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and academic needs
- Collaborate with colleagues, instructional staff, and campus leadership
- Participate in professional development, PLCs, and school-wide initiatives
- Support the mission, vision, and values of UME Preparatory Academy
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas Teaching Certification for Elementary (Core Subjects EC–6) or appropriate certification covering Grades 4–6 in compliance with Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of TEKS for upper elementary instruction (Grades 4–6)
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Preferred
- Experience teaching Grades 4–6
- Strong background in reading comprehension, writing instruction, and mathematics
- Experience with differentiated instruction and small group interventions
- Familiarity with data-driven instruction and assessment practices
Skills and Competencies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build relationships with students, families, and staff
- Effective classroom management and instructional planning
- Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly
- Proficiency in instructional technology and student information systems
Working Conditions
- Classroom environment with extended periods of standing, walking, and active instruction
- Ability to manage diverse learning needs and student behaviors
- Occasional after-school duties, meetings, and events
Compensation
Salary is based on experience and aligned with the UME Preparatory Academy pay scale.
