Job Title: Elementary Music Teacher (Grades K–4)

Campus Principal
Position Summary
The Elementary Music Teacher (K–4) is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive music education program aligned with the Texas Education Agency guidelines and the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Fine Arts. The teacher fosters a love of music while building foundational skills in rhythm, melody, performance, and music appreciation through engaging, age-appropriate instruction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Instructional Planning & Delivery
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with TEKS for Music (K–4)
- Teach foundational music concepts including:
- Rhythm, beat, tempo, and dynamics
- Singing and vocal development
- Instrument exploration (e.g., percussion, classroom instruments)
- Music literacy and notation basics
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs, including ESL and Special Education learners
- Integrate cross-curricular connections (e.g., math patterns, literacy through song)
Classroom Environment
- Establish a structured, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment
- Manage student behavior in alignment with campus discipline policies
- Maintain music equipment, instruments, and instructional materials
Student Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Assess student learning through performance, participation, and informal/formal evaluations
- Provide feedback to students and communicate progress with parents/guardians
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with campus and district expectations
Program Development & Participation
- Plan and coordinate student performances (e.g., concerts, programs, assemblies)
- Support school-wide events and initiatives
- Collaborate with grade-level teachers and staff to enhance student learning
Compliance & Professional Responsibilities
- Adhere to all policies set forth by the district, campus, and the Texas Education Agency
- Maintain professional ethics in alignment with the Texas Educators' Code of Ethics
- Participate in professional development and staff meetings
- Maintain certification requirements (if applicable)
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certification in Music (preferred)
- Uncertified candidates may be considered in accordance with district policy
Experience
- Experience working with elementary-aged children preferred
- Classroom teaching or student teaching experience in music education
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of elementary music pedagogy and child development
- Ability to teach singing, rhythm, and basic instrumental skills
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Ability to engage young learners through interactive instruction
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Performance Metrics (Aligned to Compensation & Evaluation Systems)
- Student engagement and participation in music instruction
- Demonstrated mastery of TEKS-aligned objectives
- Successful execution of student performances/events
- Classroom management effectiveness

Work Environment
- Classroom and performance settings (cafeteria, auditorium, gym)
- May require standing, singing, and active movement throughout the day
- Occasional after-school events (concerts, programs)
Compensation
- Based on district-approved salary schedule (certified or uncertified scale as applicable)
