POSITION:  Instructional Guide (6th - 8th Grade)

LOCATION:  10310 York Street, Thornton, CO 80229 - Explore PK-8

PAY RANGE: Licensed Salary Schedule, $60,004 - $124,634 Annual Salary

CALENDAR: 190 Days

REPORTS TO: School Director/Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current and valid Colorado teaching license.
  • Additional endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education preferred, *or willingness to pursue endorsement or equivalent coursework. *
  • Colorado Principal/Admin license preferred.
  • The minimum requirement for Instructional Guide (IG) is 5 years of successful and effective teaching experience. The IG should also demonstrate mastery of pedagogical and subject matter skills; evidence of excellent interpersonal skills; and a commitment to participate in, plan for and provide professional development.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS:

1. Oversee Mapleton's Induction Program at the school level for beginning teacher(s). Responsibilities include:

  • Attend monthly Induction/IG professional development meetings, provide scheduled Induction meetings with new staff and those new to the school.
  • Introduce and orient the new teacher to the school.
  • Use a research-based framework to guide the new teacher in reflecting on practice for the purpose of growth and development.
  • Use structured tools (such as Mapleton's Framework for Teaching) to guide interactions and keep collaborative conversations focused.
  • View new teacher's classroom to provide objective non-judgmental data.
  • Arrange reciprocal classroom visits.
  • Model and conduct demonstration lessons.
  • Co-teach with the new teacher help the new teacher.
  • Identify and access school and community resources.

2. Support teachers in the development of the teaching/learning cycle.

  • Support teachers with classroom rules and routines.
  • Help with classroom management.
  • Help set-up classroom.
  • Help plan lessons.
  • Look at student work.
  • Use formal and informal assessment strategies.
  • Analyze student work to differentiate instruction.
  • Understand and use the curriculum and student standards.

3. Support teachers in the development of short- and long-term goals.

4. Support school in a wide capacity which may include Leadership support and communication, emergency needs, substitute coverage, field trip implementation, assembly planning, and as assigned.

5. Hold strong communication skills.

6. Assist in recruiting and hiring highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals.

7. Oversee the ordering, organizing and maintenance of learning resources.

8. Coordinate and collaborate with school staff to design and implement professional growth opportunities with teachers and paraprofessionals.

9. Complement the leadership, staff, students, and parents in the pursuit of the development and implementation of the school model (name the model).

10. Maintain a flexible schedule capable of multiple task undertakings and spontaneous adjustment to circumstances as they arise.

11. Attend conferences, workshops, in-services, meetings, or classes as needed to support the development a (school model).

12. Assist the School Director in the preparation of periodic reports on the development and implementation of a (school model).

13. Oversee the coordination, preparation, administration, and analysis of a variety of educational assessment materials to inform daily learning.

14. Highly competent in observing, modeling, providing feedback, and coaching individual teachers to positively impact student learning.

15. Promote and develop leadership with all constituents of the school community.

16. Willing to provide direction and instruction to staff, community, and students.

17. Demonstrates a willingness to work with students ranging in grades from seventh to twelfth grades.

18. Assist teachers in creating appropriate instructional interventions to meet the individual needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners (ELL), students with special needs, students on a 504 plan, intervention groups, and students identified as gifted and talented.

19. Possess a strong background in literacy and math instruction.

20. Other duties as assigned for the school and the district.

 

TRAINING: 

  • Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education and for all public school employees. Title IX training addresses harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Completing these mandatory Title IX training courses ensure we are meeting state requirements while continuing to foster a culture of safety and belonging across our schools.
  • You will have two mandatory training courses that must be completed within 30 days of your date of hire and are required to be completed on your own time.
