Position Title: Education Specialist, Licensure & Certification

Reports To: Director, Licensure & Certification

Description of Position: The Education Specialist, Licensure & Certification position is responsible for providing exceptional service to districts/charters, the education community, and the public.  This position will be responsible for managing workflow and monitoring team and personal workload.  This position will be responsible for processing applications for specialized educator positions in Pre-Kindergarten to Adult Education and providing systemic and continuous monitoring of district/charter licensure statistics.  The Education Specialist will also be responsible for responding to customer services requests through the Department's KACE service ticketing system.  Additionally, this position will answer phones, respond to inquiries from educators, the public, institutes of higher education, and other callers.  This position will provide training and technical assistance to educators and community partners.  The Education Specialist will participate in the development of Code and Regulation through committee participation and working with the Professional Standards Board (PSB).

Major Responsibilities:

  • Manage L&C Operations and workflow through supervision of and collaboration with team members.
  • Processing applications in delegated, specialized area(s) (e.g., Alternate Routes to Certification, Skilled and Technical Sciences, Multiple Measures, Criminal Affirmations, or Secretary of Education reviews).
  • Provide support, information, and professional development to the team, educators, district and charter school HR staff, institutes of higher education, and the public via phone and through the team's KACE ticketing system.
  • Support Workforce Support initiatives such as recruitment fairs.
  • Participate in the development of Code and Regulations as they relate to educator credentialing through DOE committees and work in cooperation with the Professional Standards Board and the State Board of Education.
  • Developing and maintaining manuals, policy documents, and websites with updated information about requirements of educator licensure and certification.
  • Participating in the implementation, maintenance, and updating of DEEDS, the technology system for licensure and certification.


Essential Qualifications:

Education:  Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years demonstrated experience working in an office environment with multiple workflows.
  • Experience interpreting code, regulations, policies and/or procedures.
  • Experience managing or leading a team preferred.


Skills:

  • Proficiency in Teams preferred.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be proficient in use of Windows and Chrome, addressing multiple windows and tabs simultaneously.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects/workflows while ensuring that goals and priorities are met for self and a team.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in performing responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Must be skilled in setting priorities, working under pressure, and working in collaboration with others.
  • Must be able to proactively solve problems with professionalism.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with staff in a tactful, congenial, and personal manner.
  • Must understand the Department's organizational aims and objectives.
  • Must be experienced in exercising discretion and confidentiality in all professional duties.


Salary:  
Salary Range: $84,554.21 to $131,564.14 annually. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's education and experience in accordance with the Department of Education's compensation policy.  The position includes a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, participation in the state retirement program, annual, sick, and personal leave, and supplemental benefits options. Direct deposit of payroll checks is a condition of state employment, and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment.
