POSITION INFORMATION:
 

Supervisor:  Ms. Margaret Tsosie, Curriculum Leader                               
Employment Period: 12 months
Employment Status:Full-time
Pay Grade:G-217
Salary:Commensurate with experience
Start Date:July 1, 2026



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Responsible for developing, monitoring, and modeling curriculum and resources for social studies instruction, grades K-12.  Responsible for the development of social studies assessments, both formative and summative, grades K-12.  Responsible for collaborating with the different departments in Hampton City Schools and school-based staff to promote the Hampton City Schools instructional model and research-based best practices for social studies instruction.
 

  • Structure regular visits to schools to model research-based instruction to classroom teachers.
  • Collaborate with Social Studies Department staff to plan, coordinate, and conduct staff development for teachers and administrators.
  • Model classroom management techniques and effective instructional strategies in classrooms.
  • Collaborates with and provides support for social studies teachers and other resource staff.
  • Develop curriculum, learning plans, pacing guides, assessments, and instructional materials that align with current History & Social Science Virginia Standards of Learning, grades K-12, under the supervision of the Curriculum Leader for Social Studies.
  • Disaggregate and analyze data to direct decision-making in the Social Studies Department.
  • Monitor the Virginia Standards of Learning to assure compliance with requirements.
  • Visits schools, conducts walkthroughs and provides feedback on a regular basis to ensure consistency of the instructional program.
  • Collaborate with school-based staff to monitor social studies instruction.
  • Provide professional development support to instructional staff (grades K-12).
  • Assists the Social Studies Curriculum Leader in the coordination of meetings with teachers and instructional leaders.
  • Prepares department and division reports as required.
  • Attends professional development activities to expand professional skills.
  • Maintain up-to-date information on current state and national educational developments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



JOB REQUIREMENTS:
 

  • Teaching License with History and Social Sciences endorsement preferred; endorsement at the elementary or middle level that includes a History and Social Sciences component may also be considered.
  • Master's Degree in content area, Curriculum & Instruction or related field in education preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in content area with a Master's degree or minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in content area with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience with curriculum and assessment design preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, planning and human relation skills.
  • Ability to present material to diverse educational audiences, specifically at-risk and remedial student populations.
  • Ability to deliver clear, articulate and grammatically correct oral presentations as well as accurate and punctual written communications.
  • Demonstrate professionalism by working cooperatively with other staff members.
  • Demonstrate team and relationship-building practices with teachers.
  • Demonstrate diplomacy in all interactions with the school community.
  • Demonstrate excellent relationship skills without outside agencies to solicit and arrange for field trips and outreach programs.
