Position title: DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES
Education and Certification Requirements
- Master of Education Degree in School Administration or Special Education Administration with professional preparation in special education and knowledge of the special education process requirements
- State of Missouri Certification in Special Education Administration or Building Administration Certification
Knowledge/Skills Requirements
- To serve in a central office capacity with general supervisory responsibility in conjunction with the school principals for the development and coordination of all special services for the District.
- Assume a leadership and administrative role with responsibilities in areas listed in special services.
- Possess a thorough understanding of, and an ability to relate to, youth.
- Understanding of education and the public school's relationship to the community and the people served.
- Capacity to make thoughtful decisions based on facts, knowledge, and insight, and the courage to stand by the results.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, small and large groups, by correspondence or oral expression.
- Ability to organize and plan effectively.
- Possess an ethical and professional attitude toward colleagues and the policies of the district.
Working Conditions - Salary to be established by the Board of Education, Employed for a period of 11 months annually, Reports to the Superintendent of Schools
Other Working Conditions
- Employed annually in February with a contract for 11 months.
- Leave policies, and benefits as stated in Board policies.
- Be a member and participant in the activities of professional organizations.
- Opportunity to continue professional preparation with the prior approval of the Superintendent or designee.
- Work cooperatively with administration and staff throughout the district. Position Responsibilities Supervise the special education process from referral to placement and act as a resource to building teams for diagnostic staffing, IEP development, and strategies for students.
- Work with building administrators in the candidate selection process, professional development, supervision and evaluation of special education personnel.
- Coordinate in-service training activities related to special education and general education personnel.
- Coordinate services provided to parochial and private schools in the district.
- Coordinate and supervise contracted special services.
- Coordinates English Language Learners
- Coordinates Gifted Education
- Coordinates Early Childhood Special Education
- Prepare and administer the special services budget and accounting procedures.
- Assume the legal responsibility of special education program compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Administer/coordinate homebound, Section 504, and Medicaid reimbursement programs.
- Perform other duties assigned by Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent.
Dallas County Schools are located in Buffalo, MO. 35 miles north of Springfield, MO on US HWY 65.
