Position: Cheerleading Head Coach (HS)
Location: Garfield Heights High School

Job Description:
Garfield Heights City Schools is seeking a motivated and supportive Cheerleading Head Coach to help guide and develop our high school cheer program. The Head Coach will provide technical instruction, promote school spirit, and mentor student-athletes in both performance and personal growth. The ideal candidate will bring energy, knowledge of cheerleading techniques, and a strong commitment to fostering teamwork, safety, and sportsmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Support: Assist with planning, organizing, and leading practices, game-day performances, and special events.
- Skill Instruction: Provide instruction in cheer fundamentals, crowd-leading, stunts, jumps, and tumbling, while reinforcing safety techniques.
- Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model, promoting academic accountability, discipline, teamwork, and respect.
- Safety & Compliance: Support adherence to OHSAA, NFHS Spirit Rules, and Garfield Heights City Schools policies for cheerleading safety and eligibility.
- Game & Event Preparation: Assist in preparing routines and leading the cheer squad at basketball games, pep rallies, and community events.
- Supervision: Help monitor and supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and travel to ensure safety and proper conduct.
- Program Operations: Contribute to scheduling, equipment and uniform management, and communications with students and families.
- Other Duties: Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or school administration.
Qualifications:
- Valid Pupil Activity Permit with the Ohio Department of Education
- Satisfactory BCI/FBI background checks
- Prior cheerleading or coaching experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals, safety rules, and performance techniques
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete growth, academic achievement, and well-being
