Parent Involvement Specialists
POSITION PURPOSE:
Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist parents and other
professional staff in the parent resource center to enable parents/students to effectively use
instructional materials and equipment in the center, including support during extended
hours such as evenings and Saturdays to accommodate the Technology Bus/Mobile
Classroom schedule and school parent-teacher events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Assist parents/students in locating reference and other instructional materials for the
purpose of facilitating the proper and efficient use of parent resource center books,
materials, and equipment.
• Assist in reinforcement in reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction,
media, and other skills.
• Assist in maintaining the circulation desk operations and circulation files.
• Work with families to provide assistance to reinforce basic learning.
• Operate audio-visual equipment as needed.
• Assist in cataloging and filing learning materials.
• Construct, copy, distribute, and use educational materials.
• Support parent and student engagement activities during non-traditional hours (evenings
and Saturdays), including events connected to the Technology Bus/Mobile Classroom and
school-based parent-teacher nights.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
• Perform any other related duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT:
• Assist in the utilization and maintenance of instructional and non-instructional
equipment, including a personal computer if necessary.
• Use standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers.
COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
• Effective writing and communication skills.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform complex arithmetic operations.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding parents, students, employees,
and others.
• Ability to follow directives of supervisor, and assist parents and students with respect to
instructional and non-instructional tasks.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with parents,
students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
• Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer and digital literacy skills, including but not
limited to Microsoft Word, Canva, email communication, and other educational or
productivity platforms.
• Ability to assist parents and students in developing basic computer skills to support
learning and engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:
• Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge
for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications may be equivalent to:
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of college level coursework or passing of paraprofessional GACE
assessment.
• Prior experience working with parents/students is desirable.
• Experience with basic computer applications (e.g., Word, Canva, email) is preferred.

unexpected directions are given relative to a project that may be in process. Ability to
maintain composure and not compound a situation when interacting with persons who may
be angry, demanding or otherwise less than polite.
Independent Judgment: Ability to complete work tasks without being given precise
directions relative to work steps or the final project.
Organizational Skills: Ability to establish priorities, simultaneously manage multiple tasks;
and deliver a quality work product by a designated deadline.
Public Contact: Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in
writing, with superiors, colleagues, parents, and other individuals within and external to the
school system. Ability to demonstrate professionalism while interacting with others and to
maintain constructive working relationships.
Attendance and Dependability: Ability to report to work at the scheduled time and to
seldom be absent from work. Demonstrate prompt and regular work attendance. Process
appropriate paperwork to authorize absences in accordance with school system
procedures. Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate manner and to be conscientious
about work performance.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designated Supervisor in
accordance with Policy GBI - Evaluation of Personnel
