Elementary Physical Education Teacher
Description
Job Summary:
1. Teaches a comprehensive physical education program that prepares all students to actively acquire skills,
which promote lifelong wellness, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
2. Works to collaborate with other physical education teachers in District 68 to promote educational philosophies and practices
aligned with national and state standards, and local program goals.
3. Analyzes, diagnoses, and provides appropriate cues for physical activity performance to maximize student practice and
learning on a regular basis (NASPE, 2001).
4. Creates learning opportunities that are adapted to diverse students (NASPE, 2001).
5. Differentiates and modifies curriculum activities to match learners' needs.
6. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the over-all safety of
students.
7. Selects, organizes and maintains physical education equipment and monitors use of outdoor school-owned property.
8. Promotes standards of behavior that students will demonstrate in ethical, moral, and fair relationships with others within and
beyond the school setting (NASPE, 2001).
9. Applies authentic assessment techniques that are aligned with curriculum goals, learning experiences and student learning
with outcomes (NASPE, 2001).
10. Engages in personal professional development through inservice education provided by district, county and/or state.
11. Provides perceptual motor screening for kindergarten students to assess the development of gross and fine motor skills.
12. Communicates effectively with parents, staff and administration to monitor individual student progress.
13. Assesses individual student needs and collaborates with faculty, administration and other professional staff members to
promote students' social, personal and cognitive development.
14. Cooperates with school administration in providing specialty performing groups for special occasions, such as PTA/PTO
meetings, assemblies and interscholastic athletic events.
15. Participates in planning curriculum incorporating current pedagogical knowledge in the development of the scope and
sequence of curricular content (NASPE, 2001).
16. Designs, promotes and implements curricula that challenges students to value and respect individual and cultural differences
(NASPE, 2001).
17. Performs such tasks and assumes such responsibilities as the principal may assign.
Qualifications:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsement.
