Coordinator of Special Services

 

 

Job Title: Coordinator of Special Services 

Exemption Status: Exempt

Department: Special Education 

Primary Purpose

The Coordinator of Special Services provides leadership and coordination to ensure high-quality programming, compliance with state and federal regulations, and improved outcomes for students with disabilities.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Special Education field (diagnostician, school psychologist, speech language pathologist, transition) or related field
  • Valid Texas certification/licensure in a special education related field
  • Administrative or supervisory certification preferred
  • Experience in special education leadership, compliance, and program coordination

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of special education law, compliance, and special education programing.
  • Experience with SHARS/Medicaid billing and PEIMS reporting
  • Ability to lead teams, analyze data, and manage complex programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Professional Development experience
  • Experience and ability to work with district departments and campuses to meet district goals.
  • Ability to develop and present information to district and special education staff through web based platforms such as Google Slides, Canva, and district website.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to teachers and other staff AFTER gathering relevant information from discussion, observation, and data gathering. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Texas Education Agency requirements, IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), and district policies
  • Coordinate homebound, CEHI/PRS, private school, and homeschool services, including staffing and procedures and proportionate share.
  • Manage SHARS (Medicaid) program implementation, training, and reporting
  • Collaborate with departments, including Nursing, Nutrition, Technology, Transportation, and Accountability
  • Development of and monitoring transition services and reporting.
  • Provide information frequently to the Special Education Director and execute directives.
  • Assist campuses in instructional programming development, maintenance, and fidelity of service delivery. 

Leadership & Supervision

  • Assist in development and coordination of professional development across the district
  • Assist campuses in scheduling, staffing, problem solving regarding special education
  • Coordinate, supervise, and support related services
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and professional development
  • Serve as a resource to campus administrators and ARD committees
  • Serve as community services liaison: CRCG, Day schools, TSBVI, RDSPD
  • Assist in community outreach for Child Find and Parent Liaison.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent district travel
  • Occasional extended hours for meetings and compliance deadlines
  • Some regional travel for student services outside of the district. 

 

Other Information: 

The District contributes $330 monthly toward the cost of the employee-only health insurance, which is $105 more than the state-required amount of $225/month. All employees in this position receive free treatment at any Next Level Urgent Care.

 

Position Type: Full-Time

Contract/Days: 12-month/217 days
