POSITION: Elementary STEM Teacher
LOCATION: Harvey-Swanson Elementary and Oakwood Elementary
DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRICT:
The Brandon School District is a mid-size school district nestled in Northwest Oakland County. The district has approximately 1,000 students in junior kindergarten-5th grade between the two elementary schools, approximately 600 at the middle school level and approximately 850 at the high school. This small, tight knit community has a strong connection to its schools and is passionate about the education of its youth. Brandon High School sends 85-90% of its graduates to post-secondary school each year, it was ranked in the 82nd percentile of all schools in the State on the top-to-bottom rankings and it was awarded as a Silver Medal Winner by the US News. Our elementary schools are both one-to-one technology are each near the 83rd percentile in State rankings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with the proper Elementary Education endorsement
- Additional endorsement teaching elementary math or science or other STEM-related field preferred
- Graduate Certificate in Elementary STEM Education preferred
- Experience in inquiry-based or project-based learning preferred

- Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with students, parents and district staff
- Ability to cultivate curiosity and critical thinking
- Experience with technology integration and digital citizenship
- Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Ability to manage all aspects of the position which includes interacting with students during the day, and time for planning and grading
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
Develop and teaches District-approved innovative curriculum integrating technology while fostering collaborative problem-solving skills
Implement project-based, hands-on STEM lessons that promote critical thinking
Utilize digital tools to enhance student learning
Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences
Teach students to approach problems using scientific inquiry and engineering design processes
Stay updated on new educational technology and best practices in STEM education
Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports
Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans
Plans and coordinates the work of parapros, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips
Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays interest centers and exhibits of student's work
