For 2026-2027 School Year
 

Primary Purpose:
Provide students at C. E. King High School Early College High School (ECHS) with rigorous instruction in English Language Arts and Reading to prepare them for success in both high school and college-level coursework. Foster a supportive and academically challenging environment aligned with Early College High School standards and expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Certification:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
    • Valid Texas teacher certification in English Language Arts and Reading (7–12 or 8–12)
    • ESL Certification (preferred or willingness to obtain)
    • Master's degree (preferred for dual credit instruction)
  • Special Knowledge/Skills:
    • Deep understanding of English Language Arts curriculum, TEKS, and college readiness standards
    • Knowledge of Early College High School (ECHS) principles and practices
    • Ability to integrate college preparatory skills into daily instruction
    • Strong classroom management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Experience using technology to support instruction and student learning
    • Ability to work collaboratively with college professors, ECHS support staff, and campus leadership
  • Experience:
    • Two or more years of successful secondary English teaching experience preferred
    • Experience working in an Early College High School or with dual credit students (preferred)

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning aligned with high school and college standards.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the needs of diverse learners, including students enrolled in dual credit courses.
  • Use data-driven instruction to monitor and adjust teaching to meet student needs and support academic success.
  • Prepare students for the rigor of college-level English by embedding writing, critical thinking, research, and analysis skills into instruction.
  • Collaborate with college partners to align curriculum and support students in meeting dual credit course requirements.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional and respectful learning environment.
  • Incorporate technology into instruction and student assignments to promote 21st-century learning skills.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress and needs.
  • Participate actively in ECHS activities, including academic support sessions, parent engagement events, and college transition activities.
  • Attend ECHS and campus-based professional development, meetings, and required trainings.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement, attendance, and communication logs.
  • Uphold the mission and vision of C. E. King High School Early College High School.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the campus administration.

Working Conditions:

  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; manage multiple priorities; adapt to an evolving academic environment.
  • Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Environment: Classroom setting, occasional travel to partnering college campus as needed.

Terms of Employment:

  • 187 day contract
  • Salary determined by Sheldon ISD Teacher Hiring Schedule
  • Starting Salary $66,000
  • Position cannot be performed remotely
