JOB TITLE: Associate Director of Athletics

DEPARTMENT: Student Services 

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Athletics

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time, 12 month contract

SALARY: Based on Experience and Education

 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education: MA/MS degree in education-related discipline preferred; valid  Oklahoma teaching and administrative certificate preferred  

 

Experience:  Minimum 5 years as a classroom teacher preferred; minimum 2  years in an administrative capacity preferred 

 

Skills: Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication  ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and laws applicable to education; expertise in Oklahoma State Department of Education and Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association athletics 

 

 

SUMMARY:  Administers and directs functions related to the design, development and  implementation of district athletic activities to increase student opportunities. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSThese statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to the position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.

 

  1. Assists Executive Director of Athletics in the development and administration of an effective program of athletics for both male and female students in all secondary schools grades 7-12.
  2. Participates in the development of an athletic budget and administers same for secondary school athletic programs. Includes: allocation of funds to each sport, approval of expenditures, requisitioning of supplies and equipment, receipting in of all athletic ticket sales, receipting of all miscellaneous athletic revenue, and interpretation and monitoring of all athletic budget reports from data processing department and finance department.
  3. Assists in the supervision and coordination with building principals and head coaches the development of schedules of all athletic events.
  4. Directs duties related to athletic contests which include establishing the procedures for ticket sales, crowd and facility supervision, securing game officials, scorers, timers, police protection, facility coordination, transportation coordination.
  5. Under direction of the Executive Director of Athletics, the Assistant Director of Athletics will recommend the need for coaches, trainers, etc., interview applicants for coaching positions, recommend (in cooperation with administrative staff) coaching assignments, evaluate the performance of all coaches, recommend contract action (renew, reassign, terminate). Teaching assignments of coaches be considered in all personnel matters and will require coordination with the Executive Director of Athletics.
  6. Upholds all local, state and federal policies, regulations and laws. Assumes leadership in developing new policies to improve the school athletic program. Recommends policies to Executive Director of Athletics
  7. Promotes the school athletic programs to maintain a high level of community interest and support. Serves as an information source on questions concerning athletic programs, maintains good relationships with and provides information to the news media, maintains close coordination with all stakeholders and the non-school athletic programs.
  8. Maintains awareness of need for proper athletic facilities for a safe and effective athletic program. Serve as consultant to the administration and Board of Education in development of new facilities. Assists in coordinating the use of facilities which are used by more than one school.
  9. Participates in district programs to assist student athletes in all sports in obtaining college and university scholarship opportunities. The program should incorporate the assistance of coaches within individual sports and should include, but not be limited to the following:
  • A plan to identify students with unusual athletic talent.
  • Assist families of those identified athletes in preparing the appropriate material to seek college or university scholarships.

Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.
