POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION: School Crossing Guard

POSITION TYPE: Classified – Non-Instructional Aide - Salary Schedule

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent is recommended.
- Shall have the ability to communicate and deal with students, teachers and the public in
a congenial and positive manner.
- Shall have demonstrated aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Shall exhibit acceptable standards of emotional stability, moral character, sound health
and be physically able to perform necessary job responsibilities.
- Shall exhibit a pleasant and dignified manner, be neat in appearance and have the ability
to adjust to change.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and
acceptable.

CONTRACT WORKDAYS: As per Board Agreement (follows the school calendar and only
works the number of students days)
- Days: Monday - Friday
- Hours: 7:30AM-9:00AM and 2:30PM-4:00PM
- Can be combined with another open position to approach full time status and become
eligible for health insurance benefits. (See Lunch/Recess Monitor)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Security

SUPERVISES: N/A

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: During the assigned times, to assist students and other
community members in safely crossing the street at the assigned, non-signalized street crossing.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safe Crossings:
? Safely assist students and pedestrians in crossing busy intersections and streets near the
school.
? Ensure the orderly and secure movement of children and adults, helping them navigate
traffic safely.
Traffic Management:
? Monitor and control traffic flow during peak hours, working in conjunction with local
law enforcement if necessary.
? Use appropriate hand signals and traffic control devices to guide pedestrians and drivers.
? Adherence to Safety Procedures:
? Enforce and adhere to established safety procedures and guidelines.
? Report any violations or unsafe behaviors to the appropriate authorities.
Communication:
? Maintain effective communication with school staff, parents, and local law enforcement
to address concerns and coordinate efforts to improve safety.
Equipment Maintenance:

? Ensure the proper functioning of assigned safety equipment, such as stop signs, safety
vests, and flags.
? Report any equipment issues promptly for repair or replacement.
Weather Considerations:
? Work in various weather conditions, ensuring the safety protocols are adapted to
different circumstances.
Community Engagement:
? Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and community members,
promoting a sense of security and trust.
Requirements:
? Must be available during peak school commute hours, typically mornings and
afternoons.
? Ability to stand for extended periods and assist pedestrians across the street.
? Ability to work in various weather conditions.
? Effective communication skills, especially in dealing with children and motorists.
? Punctual and reliable attendance is crucial.
? Successful completion of a background check to ensure suitability for working with
children.
? Completion of any required training programs related to crossing guard duties.
