School Business Administrator / Board Secretary
Qualifications:
- Standard New Jersey School Business Administrator Certificate
- Master's Degree or MBA preferred; CPA preferred
Reports to:
Superintendent of Schools / Board of Education
Supervises:
Business Office staff, Transportation, Maintenance, Food Service management staff, and other appropriate non-certificated staff.
Job Goal:
The Business Administrator is responsible directly to the Superintendent of Schools for the overall planning, coordination and management of all financial and business activities of the school district and the management and supervision of support services and non-certificated personnel.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Supervises the management of the financial affairs of the school district.
- Assumes responsibility for budget development and long-range financial planning.
- Establishes and supervises a program of accounting that records all money and credit transactions in sufficient detail
- Supervises the collection, safe-keeping, and distribution of all funds and acts as the payroll officer for the District.
- Manages the District's real estate and insurance programs.
- Assumes responsibility for the comprehensive overall planning and scheduling of maintenance, repair, grounds and custodial requirements of the District.
- Develops and administers a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the curricular and extracurricular programs.
- Ensures that all District fiscal and support services comply with the laws and regulations of the State, the negotiated agreements and policies of the Board, and the directives of the Superintendent.
- Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating all support personnel.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of programs in areas or responsibility and recommends changes in program, staffing, or management strategies as necessary.
- Assumes responsibility for the District's food services program.
- Uses administrative management practices which promote the efficient and effective operating of the areas of responsibility.
- Identifies areas for personal and professional growth, acquires appropriate skills and information and applies them.
- Works cooperatively with the administrative staff toward the achievement of District objectives.
- Supervises the school district purchasing and warehousing departments.
- Acts as Board of Education liaison with school board attorneys on legal matters for the school district.
- Assumes responsibility for new construction and remodeling and rehabilitation of buildings and maintains direct contact with architects who are employed by the Board of Education.
- Performs such other duties as may be required by law or as the Superintendent or Board of Education may direct.
Terms of Employment:
Twelve-month basis. Salary based on experience and education; to be negotiated.
Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Superintendent and in accordance with provisions on the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
