Hazel Park is seeking applicants for the position of Adapted Physical Education Teacher – Physical Education for Students with Disabilities (SP) endorsement required.  The district is served by caring and professional teachers and other staff providing instruction and support to approximately 3,100 students.  The Hazel Park community is proud and supportive of its schools, the staff and student population.

Job Title: Adapted Physical Education Teacher
Location: Edison School
Reports to: Edison Supervisor

Position Summary:

The Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teacher provides individualized physical education instruction or services to students at Edison School in grades K-12. Adapted physical education teachers evaluate and assess motor competency, physical fitness, play, recreation, leisure, social and sports skills. The APE teacher supports the development and implementation of IEPs based upon assessment findings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certification with endorsement in Physical Education for Students with Disabilities (SP) required

Essential Functions:

  • Provide consultation to administrators, instructional staff, students, and families regarding evidence-based practices for the development of students' motor activities, including recreation and leisure time activity.
  • Provide direct instruction in recreation and leisure time activity.
  • Plan the Physical Education program to meet student's needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Provide ongoing evaluation of student progress towards IEP goals and objectives.
  • Maintain an appropriate record keeping system and prepare reports.
  • Inform parents of the student's progress and achievements as necessary.
  • Engage in regular professional learning opportunities to stay current in evidence-based practices.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly in written and oral communication.
  • Maintain physical education equipment, inventory, and instruct students in proper use of equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
