NOTICE OF OPENING: Certificated Personnel (Summer)

POSITION: Summer Discovery Health Paraprofessional 

LOCATION: Westview Elementary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent; Associates Degree preferred
  • Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours) or ETS ParaPro Assessment. A passing score of 460 is required
  • Previous work with children;
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and staff
  • Ability to organize materials and time efficiently and to keep neat, accurate records
  • Ability to work directly with students in an appropriate and professional manner and to give direction as needed.
  • Knowledge and skills in working with children with cognitive, behavior, communication and emotional disabilities.
  • Must have the ability and proven record to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Display sensitivity to the multi-ethnicity of students.
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
  • Basic knowledge of diabetes management or willingness to undergo training.
  • Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Monitor the student's blood glucose levels using provided equipment (e.g., continuous glucose monitor or finger-stick tests) as required.
  • Administer insulin via injection or pump under the supervision of the school nurse or per the student's diabetes care plan.
  • Recognize and respond to signs of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, following appropriate protocols.
  • Collaborate with the site directors, teachers, and family to ensure the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan is effectively implemented.
  • Maintain accurate records of glucose readings, insulin administration, and other relevant health data.
  • Assist the student with managing dietary needs, including carbohydrate counting and meal/snack monitoring.
  • Participate in training related to diabetes management, emergency response, and other relevant topics.
  • Support that administration of medication in the office at the direction of site directors.
  • Keep accurate records of all medications administered.
  • When not needed for 1:1 care, will support our other classrooms as directed by the site directors.
  • Provides academic and/or behavioral support to students who need additional assistance. 
  • Become directly involved with and interact with students on classroom projects and special activities as modeled by the classroom teacher.
  • Prepare instructional materials under the direction of the teacher and/or site director(s)  in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining accurate records of student progress.
  • Work with students in the class with curriculum tasks and assignments guiding and helping but not teaching.
  • Under teacher supervision, work with students to reinforce and master materials initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Under the direction of the teacher, assist in supervising, interacting, and working directly with students in the classroom and other settings (ie: lunchroom, playground, band/music/art/technology rooms, gym, library, field trips, and/or other areas).
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of students. 
  • Ensure students are supported emotionally during summer school.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Implement PBIS program components to support students academic, behavior, and attendance goals.
  • Facilitate and supervise students' daily enrichment activities as outlined in the summer program schedule. 
  • Supervise students during all on-site enrichment assemblies and activities as well as all off-site field trips following all program guidelines to ensure student safety.
  • Attend all scheduled days of the summer discovery program including professional development training.
  • Perform other duties and functions as assigned by the classroom teacher and/or site directors.

SCHEDULE:

Room Set-Up & Building Training at Westview Date:

  • June 26th (8 am - 4 pm)

Summer Discovery Dates:

  • July 6 - July 31, Monday - Friday; 
  • Staff hours: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week / daily schedule set by the Summer School Site Director.  
  • Student Hours: 8:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, Staff hours may be flexed 30 mins before or 30 mins after student hours depending on the Site Director (s) scheduling.

Room Break-Down and Clean Up Date:

  • August 3- Monday (8am- 4 pm)

SALARY:            $20 per hour (Grant funded amount)

ADDITIONAL INFO:

  • All staff are required to attend 2 days (8 hours a day) of mandatory paid training as notated above.
  • All paraprofessionals will be given a 15 minute relief period each day on non-field trip days, and duty free lunch on non-field trips days (30 min/day).

REPORTS TO:  Summer School Site Director(s)

Positions  will be filled based upon student enrollment, certification, and program experience.
