Position Summary
The Varsity Cheerleading Head Coach is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the cheerleading program, including sideline cheer, game support, and competition. The coach will promote school spirit while ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Skill Development
- Plan and conduct practices focused on cheer techniques, including motions, jumps, stunts, tumbling, and routines.
- Teach and enforce proper safety techniques in all cheerleading activities.
- Choreograph and coordinate cheers, chants, and routines for games and events.
- Prepare the team for performances at athletic events and competitions.
- Provide individualized feedback to support athlete growth and confidence.
- Foster teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and school pride.
Program Leadership & Game/Event Responsibilities
- Coordinate and lead cheer performances at varsity Football events.
- Organize game-day responsibilities, including cheers, sidelines, and crowd engagement.
- Serve as the primary leader and role model for the cheerleading program.
- Ensure the team represents CCS positively at all events and in the community.
Program Management & Administration
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director on scheduling and program needs.
- Ensure compliance with NYSPHSAA regulations and CCS athletic policies.
- Oversee the care, inventory, and ordering of uniforms and equipment.
- Maintain accurate attendance, eligibility, and required documentation for student-athletes.
Communication & Team Support
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, school staff, and administration.
- Promote and support academic success among team members.
- Create a positive, inclusive team environment that prioritizes student well-being.
- Address concerns or conflicts in a professional and constructive manner.
Qualifications
- Must meet New York State coaching certification requirements.
- Prior cheerleading coaching or participation experience preferred.
- Knowledge of cheer safety standards and stunt progression.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
