Options Secondary Program is an alternative program supporting students who may have struggled in a traditional school. Many of our students require additional supports for mental health concerns, regulating emotions and learning, skill building and practicing appropriate behaviors. Options Secondary Program serves alternative learners, expelled youth, and students needing "a bit more support" in grades 6-12. In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, Options employs a strong social-emotional component designed to meet the needs of each student. Options supports students as they develop academic and social competence in an atmosphere that encourages and supports self-regulation and direction. We believe that every student desires success and possesses unique strengths, struggles, and perspectives in life. The teacher in this role teaches our nine-week ONWARD Social/Emotional Skill-Building class as an orientation for all incoming middle school students at Options. Options is a collaborative program where flexibility is valued and relationships are key. While this position requires a CDE license, experience in the areas of trauma informed practices, restorative practices, psychology, sociology, at-risk youth interventions, and experience in alternative education settings are highly desired. Applicants may be required to pass the Health Education (5551) Praxis prior to the start of the school year

- Bachelor's degree

- Applicant may be required to take the Health Education Praxis (5551) prior to August 1st
Essential Duties:
- Teach our Middle School ONWARD Class (Social Emotional Skill-Building) for all incoming middle school students
- Implementing Tier 1 and 2 interventions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledgeable about classroom practice in order to successfully facilitate the learning environment, manage time, communications, and record keeping
- Ability to remain current in curricular area and in instructional practices
- Knowledgeable about student electronic database and grading software
- Knowledgeable about using technology to support instruction and enhance student learning
- Oral and written communication skills; English language skills
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Bilingual oral and written communication skills preferred.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Recognizes opportunities for improvement and/or implements improved methods within the limits of authority; adapts to changes in responsibilities and work schedule with a positive attitude.
- Dresses appropriately for work requirements.
Contacts: Daily Contact with students, instructional staff, classified staff, building administrators and parents.
Safety to Self & Others: BOE policy GBGA requires all district employees to follow general safety precautions in order to prevent injury to themselves or others. All employees are required be familiarize themselves with and follow the safety precautions in BOE policy GBGA.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
STARTING SALARY RANGE: (Annual salary schedule based on 1.0 FTE)
WORK YEAR: 187 contract days (district educator calendar)

NOTE: While you may look up your estimated salary on the linked salary schedule, updates for the 2026-2027 school year are contingent upon negotiated increases that are approved by the LPS Board of Education in the summer season. Additionally, know that these salary values are based on a 1.0 FTE working 187 contract days.
