Qualifications:

  1. Education: High school diploma required; associate's degree or certification in food and nutrition preferred.
  2. Certification: ServSafe Certification and Minnesota Food Manager Certificate (both obtainable within one year of employment).
  3. Training: Required to complete Level 2 of the Specialized Training Requirements for the SNA Certification Program within two years of employment or have post secondary education in a related field.
  4. Physical Ability: Ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
  5. Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in institutional food service (school food service preferred).
  6. Proven ability to lead and work effectively within a team.
  7. Experience with food service inventory, ordering, receiving, and point-of-sale systems (preferred)
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
  9. Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.


Job Summary:

  1. Lead with Purpose: Coordinate daily kitchen operations, including staff scheduling, food preparation, and service, adhering to USDA School Breakfast and Lunch program guidelines.
  2. Create Delicious & Nutritious Meals: Ensure standardized recipes are followed, and creatively utilize food leftovers to minimize waste.
  3. Manage Inventory & Ordering: Accurately order and receive food and supplies using our computerized food service management system, maintaining optimal inventory levels.
  4. Prioritize Safety & Sanitation: Uphold strict federal, state, and local safety and sanitation standards in all food handling and preparation.
  5. Maintain Accurate Records: Utilize our computerized system to track daily food production, temperature logs, sales reports, and other essential data.
  6. Collaborate & Problem-Solve: Work closely with the Building Chief and Food and Nutrition Coordinator to ensure equipment functionality and address any operational needs.
  7. Develop & Train Staff: Train and mentor kitchen staff on food preparation, safety protocols, and equipment usage.
  8. Manage Sales & Finances: Oversee school meal and a la carte sales, cash handling, and deposits using our computerized system.
  9. Foster Positive Relationships: Model respect and promote effective communication with students, staff, parents, and the broader school community.
  10. Champion Nutrition Education: Promote healthy eating habits within the school and community.
  11. Ensure Smooth Operations: Manage staff time keeping and absences, call in substitutes, and manage catering events.
  12. Continuous Improvement: Participate in District 196 Nutrition Services committees, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  13. Impact Student Well-being: Directly contribute to the positive development and health of students by ensuring access to nutritious and appealing meals.
  14. Foster a Collaborative Kitchen Environment: Cultivate and maintain a supportive and cooperative atmosphere within the nutrition services team and throughout the school.
  15. Pursue Professional Growth: Actively engage in opportunities for ongoing training and development to enhance skills and advance within the school nutrition services field.
  16. Promote a Healthy School Community: Play a vital role in creating a thriving school environment by championing healthy eating habits and contributing to overall student wellness.

According to contractual agreement (based on 2025-26 contract)

  • Secondary Nutrition Services Manager:  $25.68 - $30.75 Hourly
  • Elementary/SES Nutrition Services Manager:  $24.23 - $28.09 Hourly
