TITLE: Cook III/Server
REPORTS TO: School Counselor and Child Nutrition Administrator
JOB GOAL: To prepare and serve students attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness and friendliness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have some experience in the production of quantity foods
• Possess the ability to successfully relate to students and fellow workers
• Possess current Food Handler's Card from the Ohio County Health Department
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
• *Pass the approved West Virginia Service Personnel Tests for School Cook
• Evidence of ability to adhere to federal, state, and local laws and policies.
• A clear background check.
• An outstanding attendance and punctuality record in current and previous positions.
• Any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as a cook
• Willing to work a flexible schedule
• This job is classified as requiring a medium-heavy work capacity
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
• Adhere to all federal, state, and district laws and policies.
• Maintain the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen and cafeteria with daily cleaning and sanitizing and heaving cleaning when applicable
• Competent in online ordering of products weekly to vendors and checking school email daily at a minimum
• Must be able to use effectively all kitchen equipment
• Assist with determining the quantities of each food to be prepared daily
• Prepare and serve food according to a planned menu and proper serving sizes per production records
• Prepare and serve food items according to recipes and or package directions on products
• Report to Cafeteria Manager and/or Child Nutrition Office any faulty or inferior quality food which is received
• Participate in staff development training as directed
• Demonstrate an interest in the school and in the welfare of the children
• Must be able to lift all equipment and food containers used in cooking (example: case of 6/#10 cans, grinders, etc.)
• Assist Child Nutrition Light Truck Driver to load or unload truck for delivery
• Ability to work in various temperatures including freezers, walk-in coolers, and near hot cooking equipment
• Maintain positive work habits
• Perform duties efficiently and productively.
• Maintain and/or upgrade skills as required.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
• Willing to work flexible schedule per Principal or Child Nutrition Administrator as needed
• Calculate needed portions of all items ordered and cooked each day.
• Complete daily production records correctly and in full per USDA regulations.
• Maintain accurate inventory of items ordering only what is needed each week.
• Organize and keep current all applicable records in the kitchen including but not limited to production records, temperature logs, thermometer calibration logs, CN Labels, Product Formulation Statements, Health Department Inspection Reports.
• Understand and implement Offer Versus Serve method of serving students ensuring students are served reimbursable meals.
• Willingness to complete Alternative Breakfast Strategies needed at the school per direction of the Principal and/or Child Nutrition Administrator which may include a Breakfast After the Bell Program, a Second Chance Breakfast Program, or other strategy in place to increase breakfast participation.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Child Nutrition Administrator and Cafeteria Manager
*Currently classified cooks do not have to take the tests.
