Description
After School Program Worker
Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the After School Program Coordinator or designated certified staff member, the After School Program Worker assists with the supervision, guidance, and support of students participating in the after-school program. The role focuses on ensuring a safe, structured, and engaging environment while supporting enrichment, academic reinforcement, and recreational activities.
Essential Job Functions
- Supervise and assist students during after-school activities, including academic support, enrichment programs, and recreational activities.
- Support students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic academic skills, complete homework, and participate in structured learning activities.
- Assist staff with planning and preparing activities, materials, and resources for academic and enrichment sessions.
- Monitor student behavior to ensure a safe, respectful, and orderly environment.
- Assist with record-keeping to document student participation, progress, and behavior.
- Supervise students during non-instructional times, including snack/lunch periods, transitions, and outdoor play.
- Accompany students on approved field trips, ensuring supervision and safety.
- Support students with special needs in accordance with IEPs or individualized support plans, promoting inclusion and engagement.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to maintain the well-being of students.
- Communicate with parents, guardians, and staff as directed to provide updates on student participation or concerns.
- Assist program staff with training or mentoring new after-school program workers as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the After School Program Coordinator or administration.
- Assist guidance, pupil services staff or building administration, as needed.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned

Travel Requirements
Travel between schools, or between schools and central offices, may be required for certain positions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
- Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Works in standard office and school building environments.
Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

Qualifications Profile:
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of college level coursework or passing of examination as required by the No Child Left Behind Act.
- Prior experience working with special needs children desirable.
