GENERAL SUMMARY:
Saginaw Public Schools Literacy Tech Aides are responsible for assisting in providing comprehensive school media services for students, staff, and building principals in a helpful, positive, congenial and flexible manner.

Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand and/walk, sit, lift and carry a minimum of ten (10) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, such as reading data on a computer screen or printed materials.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Organize and prepare Circulation/Information area for services on a daily basis, including needed supplies
  2. Responsible for shelving and straightening library materials
  3. Process new materials and supplies
  4. Routine reporting, cleaning and maintenance of hardware and AV equipment
  5. Responsible for media center procedural notes, notebooks and files
  6. Prepare bulletin boards and displays
  7. Support students and Teachers in the use of literacy software (Accelerated Reader, S.T.A.R. and Accelerate Math)
  8. Use library media management software for circulation (CIRC) and public access catalog (PAC) and provide weekly and monthly notices and reports
  9. Perform and apply established circulation procedures to all resources and equipment
  10. Compile magazine subscription reports using Microsoft Excel
  11. Produce reports, bibliographies, lists and indexes as assigned
  12. Provide user support in use of computer-based information retrieval systems
  13. Provide user support for and troubleshoot difficulties in using district-wide software
  14. Assist the students with resource selection in coordination with the Teacher
  15. Perform inventory procedures using the library media management system in coordination with the district literacy coordinator
  16. Assist with legal photocopying, duplication of audiotapes, recording of educational TV programs and video taping educational experiences
  17. Assist in ordering supplies
  18. Demonstrate a positive attitude for public relations in the area of literacy
  19. Will be assigned to a main building and provide support to two (2) elementariness.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned

 
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent
  2. A minimum of 60 hours of college credit at an accredited community college or university. Or
  3. High School Diploma and MUST take and pass the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment with a score of 460.  Contact Delta College for testing schedule at 989-686-9182.
  4. Previous classroom aide experience preferred

 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be willing to learn changing technologies and to assume new responsibilities required by the introduction of new services and upgrades to software and equipment
  2. Attend any training as mandated

 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Library environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, noise, dust or the like

METHOD OF EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
