ART TEACHER

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:  Art Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid State Teacher Certification or Professional Industry Career (PIC) Permit Granted by the  Professional Teaching Standards

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal

JOB GOALS:  To develop students' interest in and the ability to express themselves creatively in visual terms, utilizing skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the student's interests and abilities; to develop aesthetic understanding and appreciations; to discover and develop talents in the field of art.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and/or three dimensional art to secondary students, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
  2. Provides instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
  3. Demonstrates techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and/or teacher prepared instructional aids.
  4. Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
  5. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
  6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive studio environment.
  7. Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  8. Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
  9. Evaluates each student's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepares progress reports.
  10. Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records.
  11. Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit student's work for the school and the community.  May sponsor exhibits from outside sources.
  12. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  13. Maintains an auditable record of student attendance and makes daily reports of students absent each period.
  14. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
  15. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
  16. Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  17. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
  18. Supervises students in out-of-class activities during the assigned working day.
  19. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  20. Other duties which may from time to time, be assigned by the Supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  185 Day Contract

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on teacher evaluation.
