Director of Secondary Curriculum and Professional Learning

Job Summary:
Operating under the direction of the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning, the Director of Secondary Curriculum and Professional Learning leads the development, implementation, adoption, and evaluation of all secondary curriculum, including core content and elective areas. This role champions the district-wide vision of high expectations and equitable success for all students by ensuring alignment with the Teaching and Learning Framework. As an instructional leader, the Director collaborates with building leaders, teachers, and other staff and departments to implement cohesive curriculum programming and improve student achievement through competency-based and standards-aligned instruction. The position also supports evolving educational pathways by promoting responsive and innovative practices across secondary schools.

Job Responsibility Description

Instructional Curriculum Delivery

  • Serve as a technical expert on curriculum, ensuring alignment with district standards, initiatives, the Strategic Plan and the Teaching and Learning Framework
  • Support schools in implementing UCIA through guidance on instructional resources, curriculum alignment, and course adoption processes
  • Collaborate with district leaders and external partners to improve academic outcomes and expand college and career pathways
  • Promote horizontal and vertical curriculum alignment across departments, programs, and schools
  • Evaluate instructional programs using data analysis and evidence-based practices to improve student achievement
  • Engage in classroom visits and coaching with site leaders to strengthen instructional systems and professional learning practices

Professional Learning Supports and Delivery

  • Design, implement, and oversee comprehensive professional learning systems aligned to district goals, the Strategic Plan and the Teaching and Learning Framework
  • Lead and coordinate Secondary and Alternative Licensure Induction programs to ensure consistency and effectiveness
  • Collaborate with principals, teacher leads, and specialists to deliver differentiated, content-specific professional development opportunities
  • Support the integration of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and instructional best practices into professional learning structures
  • Communicate program goals, expectations, and resources to stakeholders through multiple platforms
  • Monitor and evaluate professional learning programs to ensure fidelity, impact, and continuous improvement

Learning Facilitation and Data-Driven Practices

  • Champion the use of data analysis and evidence-based decision-making to improve instruction and student outcomes
  • Champion professional learning communities that focus on formative and summative assessment practices, feedback cycles, and student progress monitoring
  • Design and support job-embedded, standards-based professional learning aligned with best practices in adult learning
  • Guide school and district teams in using data to inform instructional planning and adjust teaching practices
  • Support the development of systems that strengthen reporting, recording, and analysis of student performance data

Leadership and Administration Delivery

  • Collaborate with district leadership, building leaders, teachers and other stakeholders to develop and implement aligned, cohesive secondary curriculum systems consistent with the Teaching and Learning Framework
  • Lead the implementation of the District 51 Unified Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Plan (UCIA) across all secondary schools and content areas, including electives
  • Assess curriculum needs, trends, and design options to provide evidence-based recommendations that improve student outcomes and college and career readiness
  • Participate on the Curriculum Resource Governance Committee and the Professional Learning Credit Advisory board to ensure equitable access to high quality instructional materials and high quality professional learning opportunities
  • Utilize data to monitor student learning, drive continuous improvement, and support district initiatives as a change leader
  • Ensure effective planning, budgeting, procurement, and distribution of curricular resources in collaboration with internal departments

Stakeholder Engagement and Continuous Improvement

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including community partners and professional organizations, to advance curriculum and instruction
  • Stay current on educational research, trends, and best practices to inform district initiatives and innovation
  • Facilitate district committees and collaborative teams to achieve unified curriculum and Strategic Plan goals
  • Support specialized groups, including secondary librarians, in aligning with district learning priorities
  • Ensure compliance through accurate reporting, documentation, and maintenance of records

Other Duties

  •   Additional tasks, duties, and responsibilities may be assigned as needed/requested.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education plus additional coursework in administration, curriculum development or related field required
  • Minimum of three years of demonstrated leadership experience in curriculum and/or instruction development or implementation
  • Secondary Principal or Assistant Principal experience preferred
  • Experience working with a Competency-Based System preferred
  • Valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Educator License
  • Must have or be eligible for Colorado Principal's License

 

Working Conditions:
260 days / year

Salary & Benefits:
$126,486 - $193,179 *Salary Placement Commensurate with Experience
