TITLE: HIGH SCHOOL DEAN OF STUDENTS

JOB STATUS: TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT

FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL

DEPARTMENT: ACADEMICS AND STUDENT LEARNING

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide overall student management that will support students by creating positive and structured guidance to assist them with being successful in a school setting.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university
  • Administrative license or demonstrate enrollment in an administrative licensure program
  • Successful teaching experience at the secondary level
  • Ability to handle delicate and sensitive situations with professionalism.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Protect the health, safety and welfare of all students.
  • Assist with the interpretation of school policies and procedures for students, parents, staff and community.
  • Work with the Principal and Asst. Principal to oversee student attendance.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of student advocacy and student support programs and services.
  • Work cooperatively with community and government agencies and individual service providers; for example, Juvenile Court, the Department of Human Services, physicians and counselors.
  • Provide support and problem solving assistance for individual students, in conjunction with their parents, teachers and other staff.
  • Facilitate communication among all interested parties; including but not limited to, faculty, staff and parents.
  • Make referrals to the Intervention Assistance Teams.
  • Assist the Principal and Assistant Principal with discipline.
  • Develop individual behavior management plans for students as needed.
  • Coordinate faculty committees; for example, student recognition, substance abuse, and public relations.
  • Assist with the supervision of the high school staff, in cooperation with the Principal and Assistant Principal.
  • Coordinate staff development.
  • Coordinate home instruction services for students on medical leave.
  • Attend before and after school events and activities, as needed.
  • Engage in continuous professional growth, including attending training sessions as assigned. Complete a professional development plan according to procedures adopted by the school district.
  • Use sound judgment, tact and diplomacy when interacting with students, parents and the community, and maintain the confidentiality of information that is not public domain.
  • Serve as a role model in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary Based on Teacher Salary Schedule
