We invite prospective applicants to apply for the position of WORLD LANGUAGE TEACHER - FRENCH (GRADES 9-12) at the Southern Lehigh School High School.
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE
To develop in each student an insight and understanding in French languages while also having an extensive content knowledge in the acquisition of both languages. To instruct and lead student learning in accordance with the goals, directives and curriculum of Southern Lehigh School District's Schools and the state of Pennsylvania. Teachers provide instruction and assessment in assigned subject matter using resources and research-based classroom strategies blended with sound pedagogy.
ESSENTIAL TEACHING PRACTICES
The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following essential functions:
- Lesson Planning and Preparation: designing coherent, developmentally appropriate and subject specific lessons for instructional purpose including the selection of resources and designing of assessments taking into consideration student ages, learning styles and needs.
- Classroom Environment: managing the classroom setting, procedures, and expectations for student learning. Provides direct supervision to students in classrooms, hallways and other spaces (cafeteria, offices, common areas) in the school to ensure a safe, respectful environment that is conducive to learning and generally free of distractions.
- Instructional Delivery and Assessment: teaches with accuracy subject specific content through in-person and electronic communication means using lecture, demonstrations and modeling while employing a variety of learning methods and activities to promote student understanding, and assesses learning using traditional and non-traditional informal and formal measures.
- Professionalism: performing professional responsibilities associated with teaching including reflecting and refinement of lessons, taking attendance and grading, maintaining student records, attending professional development workshops, and communicating with families by conducting meetings, Back to School events, Parent Conferences and other meetings with students, parents and colleagues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Develops lesson plans and curricula that demonstrate the oral and written French language including phonics, grammar, writing, and conversational material with a focus on pronunciation, key words, and phrases.
- Teaches writing and French composition material while demonstrating mastery of both languages from Level 1 through AP levels of French.
- Understands and uses key concepts, underlying themes, relationships, and different perspectives related to the content area. Uses knowledge of student development to make learning experiences in the content area meaningful and accessible for every student. Relates ideas and information within and across content areas. Understands and uses instructional strategies that are appropriate to the content area.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
- Maintains familiarity with district and Pennsylvania State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learning of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that students' conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment, and maintains inventory records.
- Provides instruction to students with special needs in accordance with IEP, utilizing support services as required; participates in IEP meetings as appropriate.
- Provides planned learning experiences in order to motivate students and best utilize the available time for instruction; identifies and adjusts instructional objectives in terms of student need using grade level standards and assessments.
- Creates lesson plans that comply with PA Core Standards and/or PA Academic Standards.
- Administers multiple-measure assessment tests in accordance with testing programs implemented in the district.
- Maintains regular and timely attendance.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Attends all non-teaching duties as assigned (i.e. lunch, recess, study hall duty, etc.).
- Performs other assigned and related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/district or state policies and practices.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of curricular planning, state standards and the principles and methods for delivering standards based curriculum and instruction for all students.
- Ability to plan and deliver a curriculum that is differentiated for individual learners or groups and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Ability to measure or assess student learning progress and evaluate testing scores and data.
- Ability to prepare, update and maintain student records, progress reports, lesson plans, and other required documentation in accordance with district protocol and the law.
- Knowledge of school district policies and state laws pertaining to the confidentiality of students' information and data.
- Knowledge and ability to comply with all school district policies.
- Ability to effectively use electronic tools and resources (computers, equipment, subject curriculum, business and communication software and Internet resources) in the performance of work duties.
- Knowledge of school and state compulsory attendance requirements and completes reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of safety drills and facility evacuation plans, and ability to implement safety protocols taking all reasonable actions to protect students, self and others and secure District facilities.
- Ability to report injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
- Collaborates with fellow teaching staff in professional development and in departmental activities as required.
- Knowledge of Professional Standards and ethical conduct as defined in state ethics codes.
- Knowledge of professional obligations related to all mandated reporter responsibilities and ability to perform all associated duties to report child abuse, discrimination, sexual harassment, et al.
- Ability to present professionally and as an example or role model to students.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Certification: A valid (active) Pennsylvania Instructional I/ II certification in French K-12 required.
Experience: Previous experience with teaching and supporting students in French preferred.
Note: Selected candidates must be able to produce valid [1] PA State Criminal Record Check (ACT 34), [2] FBI Criminal History Record Investigation (ACT 114), [3] PA DHS Child Abuse History Clearance (ACT 151). and [4] PA Arrest/Conviction Report Certification Form (ACT 24) all within one year of issue at the time of hire.
COMPENSATION
FLSA EXEMPT: in accordance with the SLSD-SLEA Collective Bargaining Agreement
