Description
Title: School Social Worker

Minimum Requirements:
Education: Minimum of aMaster's Degree in Social Work
Experience: Experience in the area of social work and/or counseling is preferred
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: A pleasant personality, cooperative attitude, physical skills and stamina to perform essential duties.
Primary Function: To address barriers within the child, home, school, and community which interfere with student achievement.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Assumes leadership to ensure the school system is in compliance with the Compulsory Education Law and policies adopted by the State Board of Education
- Leads or participates in the Attendance Protocol Committee
- Assists in developing attendance procedures, forms, and letters as needed
- Trains staff regarding attendance issues
- Works with students, parents, staff, and community agencies regarding attendance issues
- Files legal complaints when students are truant in compliance with procedures and laws
- Serves as the school system representative in court with truancy cases
- Ensures compliance with mandated reporting of child abuse and neglect and maintains records of all referrals made by the school system
- Develops and maintains relationships with community agencies such as DFCS, DJJ, Mental Health, and the Health Department
- Serves as Homeless Liaison
- Serves as Foster Care Point of Contact
- Serves as Hospital Homebound Coordinator
- Serves as a school system representative for various community groups and organizations which may include, Family Connection, the Habersham County Mentoring Program, Child Fatality Review Panel, LIPT and MDT
- Coordinates with other agencies and groups to provide support and services to our students and their families
- Conducts home visits with school staff to talk to parents on a variety of issues
- Links students and parents with other agencies and services that may be of assistance to them
- Works with organizations, groups and individuals to provide holiday assistance to students and families
- Participates in SST meetings, IEP meetings, Attendance Support Meetings and other meetings as requested
- Consults with school system employees to assist students and their families
- Maintains the confidentiality of students and records
- Completes year end reporting as required by the state
- Continues ongoing learning of issues relating to school social work by attending conferences and workshops
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
