POSITION:  4th Grade Teacher          
 
LOCATION:  West Town Elementary

JOB SUMMARY:
 
The Dougherty County School System is seeking elementary teachers to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective teaching professionals. The teacher will be responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning environment where students can thrive and reach their full potential. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of elementary-level social studies content and a strong desire to inspire young learners to explore communities, cultures, citizenship, history, geography, and current events. This role requires instructional creativity, strong classroom management, and a dedication to student growth. The teacher will also be responsible for preparing and implementing engaging lessons that address the academic needs and rigor of all students that encourages lifelong learners.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Bachelors' degree or higher;
  2. Valid Georgia Teacher certification or Charter Waiver eligible;
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Excellent communication and organizational skills;
  2. Ability to manage sensitive information and maintain confidentiality;
  3. Ability to relate and motivate all students in a positive manner with respect;
  4. Ability to successfully integrate technology into the classroom while engaging students;
  5. Strong understanding of elementary social studies concepts including history, geography, civics, cultures, and current events;

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Attendance and Professionalism

  1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance;
  2. Is present, organized, and enthusiastically committed to the success of all students.

Instructional Planning and Delivery

  1. Develops detailed, engaging instructional plans;
  2. Instructs assigned classes in accordance with formulated plans and outlines;
  3. Modifies instruction as necessary to meet learning objectives and student needs;
  4. Aligns instruction with school system policies and standards.

Assessment and Evaluation

  1. Develops and utilizes both formative and summative assessments to measure student progress;
  2. Completes all required records and reports accurately and on time;
  3. Maintains satisfactory performance on the system Evaluation Instrument.

Classroom Management and Student Support

  1. Maintains a disciplined and orderly classroom environment conducive to learning;
  2. Counsels with students and parents regarding academic progress and discipline issues as needed.

School Engagement and Additional Duties

  1. Supervises or assists with school activities as assigned;
  2. Performs related duties as assigned based on school needs;
  3. Completes additional responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, and lifting;
  2. Regular travel within the district and occasional evening/weekend responsibilities;
  3. Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and manage multiple priorities;
  4. Reasonable accommodations will be made as needed;


REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY RANGE:  10 Month Contract. Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
