Assistant Principal - Montville Township High School

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid New Jersey Principal Certificate or eligibility
2. Minimum experience as determined by the board
3. Demonstrated leadership capability in the areas of curriculum and staff development
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
School Leadership
1. Assists the principal in duties related to instruction, supervision, evaluation and the overall administration of the school.
2. Serves as building administrator in the absence of the principal.
3. Assists the Principal in preparing the school budget, prepares requisitions for supplies, textbooks and equipment, conducts inventories, maintains records, and reviews receipts and purchase orders.
4. Assists in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
5. Assists the principal in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria and other support services.
6. Greet and interact with parents and visitors in the absence of the school principal.
7. Supervises teachers and departments as assigned by the principal.
8. Supervises extracurricular programs, assembly programs and assignment of faculty members to assist at school functions.
9. Assists the principal in conducting various staff orientation meetings, as well as professional growth and development activities.
10. Assists in resolving differences between student/student, student/teacher and teacher/teacher.
11. Assists in the preparation of teacher, parents and student handbooks.
12. Assists in the development and implementation of all phases of community relations.
13. Assists in the coordination and supervision of special programs funded by the state or federal government.
Student Discipline, Supervision of Students
1. Assists in maintaining high standards of student conduct and enforcing discipline policies.
2. Assists in supervision of the cafeteria/building during lunch hours.
3. Provides guidance to individual students, resolves individual behavioral problems.
4. Conducts an effective in-school and afterschool discipline program.
Record-Keeping, Reporting and Scheduling
1. Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up actions.
2. Assists in the preparation of required reports of violence, vandalism, substance abuse, and possession of firearms.
3. Assists in scheduling and assignment of classes to students and teachers.
4. Performs such record-keeping and reporting functions as the principal may direct
5. Makes recommendations to the principal for changes in policies, personnel practices and other such matters that may result in a more effective school administration.
6. Assists in the scheduling process.
7. Assists in the planning and supervision of activities to promote student and employee health and safety.
8. Is responsible for the assignment and proper use of hall lockers. Coordinates graduation, senior awards night, and the underclassmen awards program.
9. Oversees the respective class advisors with regard to the planning of school functions, including prom, dances, trips, fundraisers and other special functions.
10. Maintains a close liaison with the Montville Township Police Department.
11. Is responsible for the direct supervision of the staff and student parking lots.
12. Develops and implements mid-year and final examination schedules.
13. Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the principal or superintendent.
Salary range is $133,790 - $167,934 in accordance with the MTAA salary guide agreement and based on experience. The position includes a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage, sick and personal leave.
