Job Overview

The Executive Director of Elementary Schools (EDES) provides strategic and instructional leadership to ensure high-quality teaching and learning across all elementary campuses within Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success (RYSS). The EDES is responsible for advancing the RYSS vision for elementary education by overseeing curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement efforts aligned to the RYSS Strategic Plan. This role ensures that all elementary students experience rigorous, developmentally appropriate instruction that supports academic achievement, social-emotional growth, and long-term college and career readiness.

As a key leader within the district, the EDES leads and supports elementary principals, builds leadership capacity, and ensures consistent implementation of RYSS's instructional framework while honoring campus-level autonomy. The EDES serves as a strategic thought partner to the Chief of Schools and collaborates closely with other senior leaders to implement best-in-class instructional practices designed to accelerate student outcomes across a growing public charter district.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of a coherent, aligned, and rigorous K–5 elementary instructional program that ensures all students have access to high-quality curriculum, effective instruction, and meaningful social-emotional learning experiences.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop elementary school principals to strengthen instructional leadership, campus culture, operational effectiveness, and student achievement.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of elementary curriculum, pacing guides, and instructional resources aligned to state standards and RYSS priorities.
  • Ensure the implementation of a comprehensive, coherent system of assessments to monitor student progress, inform instruction, and drive continuous improvement across elementary campuses.
  • Collaborate with the Academics team to design and deliver ongoing, job-embedded professional learning for elementary leaders, teachers, and support staff.
  • Monitor campus performance data and key indicators of academic excellence to assess progress toward district goals and to guide targeted supports and interventions.
  • Support campuses in developing and executing school improvement plans, particularly for Priority or growth-focused schools.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal requirements for elementary academic programs, including Special Education, Multilingual Learners, Gifted and Talented, and early literacy initiatives.
  • Partner cross-functionally with teams responsible for data analytics, family and community engagement, college and career readiness, and student support services to ensure a holistic and student-centered approach.
  • Establish strong two-way communication systems between school sites and the central office to support continuous improvement and responsive decision-making.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Schools or CEO/Superintendent.

 

Education, Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree required in education, educational leadership, or a related field
  • Texas Principal Certification required; Texas Superintendent Certification preferred
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in education with demonstrated success in instructional leadership and school improvement
  • Prior experience as an elementary principal or district-level instructional leader strongly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of elementary curriculum, literacy and numeracy instruction, and child development
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coach school leaders to achieve ambitious academic and organizational goals
  • Strong strategic thinking, data analysis, and change-management skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust, alignment, and shared ownership across stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret policy, assessment data, and instructional trends to inform sound decision-making
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace tools
