Title: Music Teacher SY26/27 Location: District Wide
Employment Type: Full Time Work Days: 10-month position
FLSA: Non-Exempt Reports to: Building Principal
Job Summary:
The Music Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing a comprehensive elementary music education program aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards for Fine Arts. The teacher fosters an appreciation for music, develops students' musical skills, and supports the social, emotional, and academic growth of all learners through engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate instruction.
Education, Certification, and Licensure:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL).
- Endorsement in Music.
- Successful teaching experience at the elementary level preferred.
- Demonstrated success using data to guide instruction and improve student outcomes.
- One (1) to three (3) years of band and/or general music teaching experience preferred.
Knowledge of Illinois Learning Standards for Music.
Experience:
- Experience planning and delivering developmentally appropriate music instruction for diverse learners.
- Experience preparing students for performances, concerts, or school-based programs.
- Experience using classroom management strategies that promote positive student behavior and engagement.
- Experience collaborating with classroom teachers, administrators, and support staff to support student learning.
Experience working with students with IEPs, 504 Plans, and English Learners preferred.
Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements lesson plans in general music, vocal music, and/or instrumental music appropriate for elementary students.
- Provides instruction that builds foundational skills in rhythm, melody, harmony, notation, movement, listening, and performance.
- Prepares students for performances, concerts, and school programs as appropriate.
- Assesses student progress and maintains accurate records of student achievement.
- Differentiates instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including English Learners and students with IEPs and 504 Plans.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers, administrators, and support staff to integrate music with other areas of instruction.
- Establishes and maintains a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment.
- Manages classroom behavior in accordance with district policies and procedures.
- Maintains and inventories musical instruments, equipment, and instructional materials.
- Communicates effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and program activities.
- Participates in staff meetings, professional learning communities, and district professional development.
Performs other duties as assigned by the building principal or district administration.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction.
- Knowledge of vocal and instrumental techniques suitable for elementary learners.
Ability to assess student learning and adjust instruction accordingly.

Terms of Employment:
Salary Range:
$50,727 - $64,233 Salary is based on CBA Union negotiated terms w/10yr credit cap.
