POSITION:  Teacher, Social Studies
LOCATION:  8970 York St., Thornton, CO 80229- Academy High School
PAY RANGE: $60,004 - $124,634 Annual Salary
CALENDAR: 190 Days
REPORTS TO: School Director/Principal 

SCHOOL DESIGN OVERVIEW: 

At Academy High School (9-12), students are supported in developing powerful problem-solving and critical-thinking skills through coursework that exposes them to challenging engineering and biomedical courses. 

Students work to master core subjects with an emphasis on science, technology, math, and engineering, gaining technical skills they may apply in the real world. Academy High School also offers a Health Sciences Pathway as a part of the District's CTE program. The Academy CTE Health Sciences Pathway provides biology and anatomy foundational knowledge to support students interested in earning industry credentials in several career pathways including nurse practitioner positions, dental hygienist positions, and physical therapy aid positions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Colorado teaching license with an appropriate Social Studies endorsement required.
• Additional endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education preferred, *or willingness to pursue endorsement or equivalent coursework. *

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCES: 

1. Deep understanding of Colorado Model Content Standards and the Grade Level Expectations in all grade level expectations for Reading, Writing & Communications areas.
2. Desire to grow professionally, be reflective, and seek out new opportunities.
3. Experience using multiple formative and summative assessments to determine students' level of proficiency provides feedback to students, and to create flexible groups for differentiated instruction.
4. Experience using a wide range of effective instructional practices (active pedagogy) including inquiry-based instruction, to give students support and multiple opportunities needed to meet or exceed standards.
5. Experience designing and/or collaborating on standards-based learning experiences, including identifying and preparing course materials, which supports student's skill development in science, especially related to cross content course work.
6. Experience with developing problem-based instruction and project-based learning.
7. Required participation in Mapleton's Secondary Constructing Institute (course options will be provided throughout the year) 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS:

1. Build a safe, trusting, and collaborative community with students and their families that allows them to contribute positively to the school community.
2. Mentor and serve as a student advocate on a two-year loop.
3. Communicate regularly with parents regarding students' academic and social and emotional needs.
4. Guide students through meaningful internship experiences and commute to facilitate meetings with internship mentors.
5. Provide project planning support for students' two personal projects each year.
6. Plan advisory activities with grade level teams that support social-emotional growth and community building.
7. Support and monitor student's Individualized Learning Plan through weekly 1 on 1 meetings.
8. Use data to direct planning and instruction.
9. Collaborate extensively with specialists to provide appropriate accommodation for content practice and assessment.
10. Routinely assess student goals and progress and make appropriate instructional adjustments necessary to support personal growth.
11. Create opportunities for learning that simultaneously support students with 504's, IEP, GATES plans and more.
12. Utilize standards to backward instruction.
13. Goal set and meet regularly with Instructional Coach and/or Director to support professional growth.

 TRAINING: 

• Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education and for all public-school employees. Title IX training addresses harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Completing these mandatory Title IX training courses ensure we are meeting state requirements while continuing to foster a culture of safety and belonging across our schools.
• You will have two mandatory training courses that must be completed within 30 days of your date of hire and are required to be completed on your own time.
