POSITION: Dean of Culture 
LOCATION: 9100 Poze Blvd., Thornton, CO 80229- Achieve Academy  
PAY RANGE: Licensed Salary Schedule, $60,004 - $124,634 Annual Salary 
CALENDAR: 190 Days 
REPORTS TO: School Director/Principal

Achieve Academy is a K-8 Expeditionary Learning (EL) school strongly rooted in Leadership. SUMMARY:

The Dean of Culture is a member of a school-based team whose focus is on developing systems for school staff to implement strategies and programs designed to create and maintain a positive and healthy culture and climate in the K-8 grade levels. The Dean of Culture supports learning and high expectations by supporting a process to eliminate/minimize disruptive and negative behaviors and replacing them with positive behaviors and actions. The Dean of Culture provides information, guidance, training, and assistance to school-based teams through observations, consultation, side-by-side collaboration, data collection, and action. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, Special Education, Human Growth & Development, Social Work, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, or another related field.

  • Colorado teaching license in Education, Special Education, or Special Services required.

  • At least three years' experience working with children; experience working with an adolescent population preferred.

  • Experience with coaching and mentoring students; K-8 experience preferred.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Leadership & Collaboration: 

  • Actively collaborate with teachers, support staff, and administrators to ensure consistent expectations and proactive systems 

  • Lead and participate in meetings focused on school culture, behavior, and SEL

  • Collaborate with teaching staff to:

  • support classroom management strategies.

  • design and implement management systems that are feasible, age-appropriate, and consistent among school teams.

  • integrate behavioral and social emotional learning practices into their instruction.

  • reduce students' reliance on the adult(s) in the classroom and increase their independence through strategic structures and support.

  • Provide opportunities for teachers to observe behavior strategies in action.

  • Provide opportunities for professional development and training for the school-based team.

  • Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with all school stakeholders.

  • Values student diversity and support the unique learning needs of each individual student.

  • Show courtesy, concern, and an understanding of individual problems and dealing with others.

  • Exhibits a growth mindset through participation in high quality professional learning.

  • Collaborate with colleagues, families, and community.

  • Build positive relationships and communicate effectively with families.

  • Demonstrate a level of technology proficiency that enhances student learning.

  • Contributes to a positive, student-centered school culture.

  • Follows State legal requirements and District and building policies and procedures.

  • Assist in assessment of Behavior Intervention Plans, data collection, and data analysis of individual students, classrooms, or schools.

  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of specialized programming and staff development.

  • Collaborate with other district members, community services, outside providers, school-based teams, administrators, and problem-solving teams.

  • Assist staff with the design and implementation of behavioral programming for identified students.

  • Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, teachers, parents, and administration.

  • Facilitate student learning for the purpose of achieving success in academics, social skill awareness, and problem solving.

  • Provide outlets and avenues for students experiencing social/emotional/behavioral responses for the purpose of reducing stress and encouraging positive expressions.

  • Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, bullying, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to the education code of ethics and school policies as a mandated reporter.

  • Flexibility to adjust workday hours based on activities and events scheduled for K-8 level students.

  • Ability to work beyond designated working hours for additional compensation as specified in the Agreement.

Behavioral Systems & Student Support:

  • Provide individualized student support and lead Check In/Check Out systems 

  •  Document behavioral incidents in Infinite Campus and notify teachers same day 

  • Supervise and coordinate In-School Suspension (ISS), including communication and work collection 

  • Coordinate Out-of-School Suspension (OSS) communication with staff and families, and support re-entry meetings 

  • Respond to student behavior and urgent situations with a calm, solutions-oriented approach

  • Support recess and K-8 school passing periods, including monitoring and reinforcing expectation

  • Exhibits a growth mindset through participation in high quality professional learning.

  • Show courtesy, concern, and an understanding of individual problems and dealing with others.

  • Advocate for students and their families if involved in attendance, discipline, or expulsion hearings or in the court system.

 

TRAINING:

  • Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education and for all public-school employees. Title IX training addresses harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Completing these mandatory Title IX training courses ensure we are meeting state requirements while continuing to foster a culture of safety and belonging across our schools.

  • You will have two mandatory training courses that must be completed within 30 days of your date of hire and are required to be completed on your own time.
