Description

Safety and Security Associate located at Torrington Intermediate School (grades 4-6)

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with groups of children.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Associate Degree/60 college credits or successful passing of the Para-Pro Exam strongly preferred.
  • Knows and understands district and behavior services policies and procedures
  • PMT trained, understanding crisis prevention and verbal intervention/de-escalation techniques

Certification: It is the responsibility of the applicant to obtain a guard card within 3 months of the date of employment.

Terms of Employment: 10-month schedule, 184 workdays, 37.5 hours per week. Starting pay in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement is $24.36 per hour. Benefits include a comprehensive medical package and tuition reimbursement.  

Internal Applicants: Regular employees of the Torrington Public Schools who are current members of the Paraeducators' union. In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, "Paraeducators shall not be eligible to apply for lateral positions that become vacant after August 15th. Notwithstanding the preceding sentence, paraeducators shall be eligible to apply for promotional opportunities at any time."  To be considered for a promotional opportunity, Internal Applicants must complete an online application or re-open an existing application and must submit it between April 6 through April 10, 2026 (before midnight).
