JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Instructional Coach/Reading Interventionist (Teacher on Special Assignment)
Primary Purpose:
Provides instructional support to classroom teachers and campus administrators to improve teaching and learning outcomes. Facilitates the implementation of effective instructional strategies, small-group instruction, and curriculum access, while supporting professional development, data analysis, and school-wide initiatives. Serves as a liaison between teachers, campus administration, and district leadership.
Qualifications (Education/Certification):
- Master's degree preferred
- Valid New Mexico Teacher License
- Experience in coaching or instructional leadership preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of effective instructional strategies, science of reading practices, small-group instruction, and curriculum resources.
- Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based reading interventions, progress monitoring, and dyslexia-informed practices.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, and district staff.
- Analyze and interpret academic and literacy data to guide instructional decisions.
- Provide modeling and coaching for new and Level I teachers, including reading instruction and intervention strategies.
- Support EL identification and WIDA screening processes.
- Strong organizational, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Classroom Support
- Provide guidance and coaching to teachers on instructional strategies, classroom practices, and effective literacy instruction.
- Support the implementation of small-group instruction and model effective teaching methods, including targeted reading interventions.
- Assist new and Level I teachers with professional development and classroom support, including reading instructional best practices.
- Support teachers in accessing and utilizing district curricula (print and digital), including core and supplemental literacy resources.
Reading Intervention Support
- Provide direct, targeted reading intervention to identified students based on data.
- Use diagnostic, formative, and summative literacy assessments to identify student needs and monitor progress.
- Develop and implement individual and small-group intervention plans aligned to student needs.
- Collaborate with teachers to differentiate instruction and close reading gaps.
- Maintain documentation of student progress and communicate outcomes with teachers and administrators.
- Support implementation of MTSS/MLSS literacy interventions across tiers.
School-Wide Support
- Serve as a liaison between teachers and campus administration.
- Coordinate PLCs with the principal, including data collection, analysis, and follow-up, with an emphasis on student literacy outcomes.
- Support and help coordinate school-wide instructional and literacy initiatives.
- Serve as SAT/MLSS campus lead.
- Assist with pacing guide development, including alignment to literacy standards and intervention needs.
- Support principals in managing curriculum inventory and instructional resources, including literacy materials.
- Assist principals with test administration duties (not administering).
Instructional and Program Management
- Participate in weekly meetings with the Director of Elementary Education for guidance and collaboration.
- Monitor the implementation of instructional and reading intervention programs and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documentation.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Supervisory Responsibility: NONE
SALARY: Certified Salary Schedule, 173 Days
