TITLE:  Guidance Counselor – Middle School
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Holds a Master's or higher degree in guidance counseling
2. Holds a valid Kentucky certificate as a middle school guidance counselor
3. Has demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and community

REPORTS TO:  Principal/Executive Director Student Services
 
JOB GOAL:  To make guidance and counseling services available to all students, providing for each student's individual needs depending on his/her abilities and interests.
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide counseling and guidance activities for students through individual or group settings
2. Change class schedules for students to provide most appropriate placement
3. Implement the enrollment and scheduling process for all new students during the school year
4. Serve as a consultant with student placement
5. May be principals' designee to the admissions and release committee
6. Supervise and assist in maintaining currency of student files and records, both regular and special education
7. Plan and evaluate the school's guidance program annually
8. Provide orientation for incoming sixth grade students
9. Provide orientation for outgoing eighth grade students going to high school
10. Coordinate the school's state mandated testing program
11. Provide consulting services referrals with school and community resources and professionals on behalf of students
12. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and other self-selected professional growth activities
13. Complete both district required in-service training as well as the state mandated Effective Leadership Training
14. Continue successful completion of graduate level courses until standard certification from the Kentucky Department of Education is obtained
15. Provide counseling services for students considering early withdrawal from school

 Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned, as may be requested by the supervisor
