Position / Title:  Occupational Therapist Lead

Function / Position Summary

The Lead Occupational Therapist will demonstrate superior evidenced based decision making ability to promote Best Practice skills in school based Occupational Therapy, provide technical support to therapy colleagues, and coordinate committee work to align with the District Improvement Plan and departmental goals.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Coordinate an ongoing needs assessment with the therapy department which may include but is not limited to: equipment, materials, service delivery.
  • Carry a caseload of students as determined by the workload model.
  • Consult and support the Health Services Supervisor around staffing needs.
  • Consult with Building Administration during gaps in practitioner coverage
  • Assure the quality and efficiency of therapy service delivery
  • Monitor and implement departmental record keeping and reporting systems with therapists
  • Create the agenda for department forums and collaboration meetings.
  • Create and submit professional development postings for Canvas as needed.
  • Facilitate special projects as needed.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts coordinating with Human Resources
  • Participate in interviews for new occupational therapy practitioner candidates.
  • Organize and facilitate the mentor and new employee orientation program
  • Attend Tri-Annual Illinois OT and PT Coordinator's Consortium and disseminate information to district therapists on state wide policies for school based practitioners
  • Coaching of new and existing occupational therapy practitioners.
  • Participate in OT/PT department committees to ensure alignment with District Improvement Plan and department goals
  • Participate in Monthly District and OT/PT Leads' Meetings.

Education

  • The Lead Occupational therapist will have completed an accredited college program and maintain a current professional license in Occupational Therapy for the state of Illinois and also maintain certification with NBCOT.
  • Work experience should include program development and 5 years of experience in school based practice.
  • Additional characteristics include: proactive leadership skills, professional communication, self-motivation and good organizational skills.
  • This therapist demonstrates a willingness to participate in discussion groups with the surrounding area therapy community.

Experience / Knowledge   

  • Possess the ability to think of the department globally
  • Disseminate information in a timely and accurate manner
  • Communicate excellently both verbally and written
  • Keep current on rules and regulations, as well as adhere to and support the professional code of ethics as developed by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation (IDPR) and the AOTA/APTA

Physical Demands

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing
  • Ability to travel between buildings
  • Lifting may be required as needed
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

Terms of Employment

  • This is a 9-month position. Salary and benefits are established by the Board of Education
  • The salary range for this position is $66,248.00 - $99,382.40.  Our typical practice is to hire in between the minimum and midpoint $82,825.60.
