Description
The Jericho School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Elementary School Counselor for an anticipated probationary position. The successful candidate will support the academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs of elementary students through a comprehensive, data-informed counseling program.
This position involves close collaboration with faculty, administrators, and families to foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive school environment for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and small group counseling to support students' social, emotional, and behavioral development
- Deliver classroom guidance lessons focused on social-emotional learning, character education, and interpersonal skills
- Collaborate with teachers and families to address student needs and implement appropriate interventions
- Support students' academic development, including goal setting, organization, and study skills
- Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives related to student wellness and school climate
- Participate in crisis intervention and response as needed
- Utilize data to assess student needs, monitor progress, and inform program planning
- Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to a collaborative counseling team
Qualifications:
- New York State Certification in School Counseling required
- Knowledge of child development and evidence-based counseling practices
- Familiarity with the ASCA National Model
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Demonstrated ability to build meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families
