JOB FUNCTION
The seasonal summer maintenance support staff will assist the core custodial team in executing deep clean protocols and essential maintenance projects. This role focuses on resetting District facilities to a "like-new" standard for the upcoming academic year. This position is a temporary, 10-week employment window (June – August). Approximately 400 total hours per worker over the duration of the term. Standard daytime hours, though these may be adjusted after due notice to ensure efficient operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This list is not all-inclusive and is intended to illustrate the various responsibilities performed during the summer maintenance window:
- Performs high-intensity scrubbing, stripping, and waxing of all hard flooring surfaces across the District.
- Addresses minor repairs such as painting, furniture assembly, and HVAC filter changes to prevent future failures.
- Performs special cleaning and assists with renovation projects.
- Operates large cleaning equipment and assists with floor maintenance and restoration as needed.
- Assists in examining schools for safety hazards to ensure fire exits, ventilation systems, and classrooms meet state health and safety standards.
- Moves and sets up furniture and equipment as requested.
- Performs custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and trash removal in classrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
- Performs limited grounds maintenance, including trimming and cleaning sidewalks.
- Attends work as scheduled and arrives in a timely manner.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of safety hazards and the proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
- Must be thorough in cleaning and repair tasks.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a team under direct oversight.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain honesty and integrity in all aspects of the job.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to requests or last-minute needs.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior custodial or customer service experience is preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Able to navigate all areas of the school quickly including indoor and outdoor areas. Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time. Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull.
