Early Childhood Assistant Teacher (Full or Part Time) - Multiple Positions
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
Schedule: Monday - Friday based on academic calendar
Starting base pay $20.50/hour (placement on pay scale is dependent upon experience)
Position Purpose:
The mission of the Buena Vista School District is to ensure every student reaches the peak of success. To support this mission, all departments and staff work collaboratively to provide high-quality learning experiences. The Early Childhood Assistant Teacher supports the Preschool Lead Teacher in planning, organizing, and implementing an individualized, developmentally appropriate early childhood program for children enrolled in the BVSD Preschool Program.
Essential Functions:
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing an individualized curriculum, including goals and objectives for students with an IEP.
- Prepare the classroom learning environment, including setting up interest centers and preparing materials and supplies.
- Support students in developing personal care, social, and self-awareness skills.
- Work with children in small groups, large groups, circle time, and outdoor activities.
- Observe and assess student development using the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment tool.
- Utilize positive behavior strategies appropriate to individual student needs.
- Support opportunities for students to develop responsibility and independence.
- Maintain classroom materials, equipment, and supplies in clean, safe working order.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, food program documentation, and other required reports.
- Model and teach appropriate table manners in a family-style snack and lunch setting.
- Participate in required staff training and professional development.
- Maintain student and family confidentiality.
Support and implement program philosophies, principles, and goals.

Physical and Mental Demands / Work Environment
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, crawl, twist, climb, lift, and push up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in environments with loud noise and potential exposure to contagious illnesses.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors during student activities.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed to assist students.
- Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
- Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience working with young children
