Location: Early College School at DSU, Dover, DE
Reports To: Principal / Director of Special Education
Employment Type: Full-Time, 2026-2027 School Year

Position Overview
ECS@DSU is seeking a highly organized, scholar-centered Special Education Teacher who will also serve as an IEP Case Manager. This dual-role position is responsible for delivering high-quality, specially designed instruction while ensuring full compliance and coordination of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and related services. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and committed to supporting scholars with diverse learning needs to achieve academic and social success.
Responsibilities
Instructional Responsibilities
- Provide direct, individualized, and small-group instruction aligned to IEP goals and state standards
- Develop and implement lesson plans that accommodate diverse learning styles and needs
- Use data-driven practices to monitor scholar progress and adjust instruction accordingly
- Support inclusion practices by collaborating with general education teachers
- Create a positive, structured, and supportive classroom environment
Case Management Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary case manager for assigned scholars with IEPs
- Coordinate the development, implementation, and annual review of IEPs
- Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings, ensuring compliance with timelines and legal requirements
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date special education records and documentation
- Monitor and ensure delivery of all related services (e.g., speech, occupational therapy, counseling)
- Communicate regularly with families regarding scholar progress and services
- Collaborate with service providers, administrators, and outside agencies as needed
Compliance & Collaboration
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local special education regulations
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and school-based problem-solving teams
- Support the development of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and conduct progress monitoring
- Assist with state testing accommodations and alternative assessments
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and equity for all learners
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Master's degree preferred)
- Valid state certification in Special Education
- Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and compliance requirements
- Experience working with scholars with a range of disabilities (preferred)
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and responsibilities effectively
