QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  High school diploma or GED
  • Demonstrates aptitude for successful completion of the tasks assigned
  • Ability to read basic operating instructions and write reports
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

 

JOB GOAL:  To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean place in which to learn, play and develop.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete assigned task from work order (written or oral).
  • Distinguish the different materials needed to complete work orders.
  • Use manual and power equipment in completing work orders.
  • Read drawings and blueprints for items or jobs described in work orders.
  • Utilize safety procedures and precautions in work.
  • Be responsible for maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Be responsible for the security of supplies and equipment on and off the job.
  • Make a final report on completion of work order.
  • Make recommendations regarding supplies and equipment needed for different work orders.
  • Supervise and participate in the general cleaning of the school building. This includes the lunchroom and gym areas.
  • Requisition and receive supplies and equipment and maintain necessary inventories.
  • Share in responsibility for the general security and fire safety of the building. 
  • Perform emergency repair or cleaning services as necessary.
  • Perform essential building care such as sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping and waxing floors, cleaning blinds, window glass, light fixtures, walls, carpets, restrooms, and other spaces in the school or building.
  • Sweep or vacuum classrooms and empty all waste containers daily.
  • Sweep, scrub and disinfect toilet and restroom floors daily or as needed.
  • Clean all sanitary fixtures daily.
  • Make sure all toilets are operable and place work orders as needed.
  • Fill paper towels, soap, and toilet paper dispensers daily.
  • Remove graffiti from walls, stalls, and buildings.
  • Clean all glass throughout the building on a regular basis.
  • Clean baseboards, ceiling tiles, vents and furniture daily.
  • Dust and clean blinds as needed on a regular basis.
  • Clean corridors after school daily and during the day when conditions require it.
  • Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
  • Work on school premises during scheduled hours.
  • Work on school premises during periods when the principal has authorized use of the building for special purposes.
  • Move furniture and equipment within buildings as required for various activities as directed by the principal or designee.
  • Report immediately to the principal any damage to school property.
  • Comply with any reasonable oral or written directive given by the principal or designee.
  • Keep buildings and premises including sidewalks, driveways, and commons areas neat, clean and safe at all times.
  • Assist maintenance workers as needed.
  • Prune and trim shrubs.
  • Check parking areas for potholes and obtain work orders when needed.
  • Ensure curbs are clean and free of all debris.
  • Comply with local laws, ordinances, and regulations for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste, and hazardous materials.
  • Shovel, brush, sand or salt walks, driveways, parking areas and steps to keep them free of rubbish, mud, excess water, snow or ice.
  • Water plants and shrubs as needed.
  • Fertilize flowers, lawns and shrubs.
  • Identify trees that need to be removed.
  • Inspect all tools for operability.
  • Select equipment to perform tasks.
  • Perform minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Ensure proper utilization of equipment to accomplish tasks assigned.
  • Determine proper chemical content for each piece of equipment utilized to accomplish tasks assigned.
  • Evaluate equipment durability.
  • Report potential safety hazards.
  • Maintain appropriate in person attendance.
  • Maintain standards of confidentiality.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the principal or designee may assign
