Description: Elementary General Music 

Job Summary:  The Nutley Public Schools Music Program strives to provide a comprehensive music education experience at every level.  Students begin music instruction in kindergarten and continue their music education through the fifth grade at the elementary level. There is the opportunity for the preferred candidate to teach a Zero Period at the Middle School to sixth grade students at 7:20AM.


Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required
New Jersey K-12 Music Teacher certificate required.
Classroom music teaching experience
Ability to adjust instructional strategies in order to reach year-end goals
The ability to motivate and challenge students and maintain a highly orderly music classroom environment
Receptiveness to feedback and a desire to continuously improve 
A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement
A belief that all students should be held to high musical standards
A positive attitude and a drive for personal excellence
Instrumental (band/strings) background preferred

Essential Duties:  The K-12 Vocal Music Teacher has the duties and responsibilities commonly associated with this position, including (but not limited to) the following, which are performed directly or through the proper delegation of authority, within the framework of the general laws of New Jersey, the regulations of the NJ State Department of Education, the policies and rules of the Nutley School District, and the terms of the contract with the Nutley Education Association, with all of which he/she is expected to be familiar. As well, the position is responsible for duties commonly associated with communication positions, which are performed directly or through the proper delegation of authority.


General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strong piano skills/proficiency
  • Coordinate concerts/performances
  • Instruct ensembles and lessons
  • Instrumental (strings) background preferred
  • Work with other district staff to progress students through the vocal music program.
  • Collaborate with other colleagues for district events.
  • Upholds and enforces school, administrative, board and state rules, regulations and policies.
  • Implements the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Plans lessons and learning activities to align to district and building' mission and goals.
  • Assumes responsibility for condition of assigned room and for equipment and materials issued for his/her use.
  • Communicates with parents and school personnel as necessary to discuss pupil progress under direction of the building principal.
  • Maintains required records, completes reports, and handles other routine assignments in an appropriate and punctual manner.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as assigned.
  • Maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive school and classroom environment.
  • Maintains professional development through participation in such activities as in-service education, workshops, and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Will be expected to attend school related night activities when necessary and according to school policy.
  • Maintains a safe school environment.
  • Performs other duties or responsibilities assigned by the administrator.


Evaluation of Performance:  Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code and Board of Education Policy.

Additional Responsibilities:  Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal or superintendent may assign or delegate.  Conduct, collaborate and organize concerts with other music teachers/directors.

Salary and Benefits: This position is offered medical and dental benefits. Salary range is $67,000 - $83,000.
