Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Buildings and Grounds, the Buildings and Grounds Manager provides leadership and supervision for the District's custodial and maintenance staff. This role ensures the efficient operation of facilities by conducting routine site visits, offering ongoing support, coordinating staff coverage, and overseeing the ordering and distribution of supplies and parts—all while minimizing disruptions to daily operations. 


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct supervision and support to custodial and maintenance staff across the District.

  • Conducts regular on-site inspections to assess staff performance, effectiveness, and adherence to policies and service levels.

  • Tracks staff attendance, ensuring adequate coverage to prevent operational disruptions.

  • Identifies performance concerns and reports them to the Director of Buildings and Grounds, implementing corrective actions as needed.

  • Ensures compliance with District policies, procedures, and regulations, maintaining proper documentation for all employee-related matters.

  • Inspects District facilities and grounds regularly to uphold high standards of cleanliness, safety, and security.

  • Oversees work order assignments, prioritizing critical maintenance and repairs to optimize operational efficiency.

  • Maintains an organized system for scheduling and prioritizing maintenance and emergency repairs.

  • Manages inventory, ordering, and distribution of supplies and parts essential for daily operations.

  • Assists in purchasing materials, equipment, and supplies in coordination with the Director of Buildings and Grounds.

  • Receives, stores, and distributes materials and equipment to custodial and maintenance staff as needed.

  • Communicates regularly with the Director of Buildings and Grounds regarding facility maintenance, repairs, and safety concerns.

  • Investigates staff accidents and injuries, implementing corrective or preventive measures.

  • Ensures proper reporting and adherence to worker's compensation procedures for employee injuries.

  • Coordinates staff FMLA requests with the Director of Buildings and Grounds and the Assistant Superintendent - Human Resources.

  • Assists in resolving emergency maintenance issues, working extended hours when necessary.

  • Collaborates on planning and executing the summer cleaning and maintenance schedule for District facilities.

  • Demonstrates ethical and professional conduct in interactions with staff, administration, parents, and community members.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). 

  • Bachelor's degree from an approved college or university or certificate from a technical school or college in a related area preferred.     

  • Three years' experience in custodial and maintenance supervision, commercial cleaning supervision, facility management, or a related field preferred.

  • Coursework or additional training in related trades, such as electrical, plumbing, and boiler maintenance preferred.

  • Ability to maintain HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical preferred.

  • Knowledge of current procedures and methods used in managing buildings and grounds maintenance.

  • Ability to monitor and address personnel concerns promptly and fairly.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.

  • Ability to compose correspondence, reports, and/or other required written materials

  • Ability to proficiently use MS Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, MS Outlook, and Google suite applications.  

  • Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. 

  • Valid state of Illinois driver's license.


Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary range of $60,000 to $65,000, commensurate with experience.

Working Conditions:

  • 12-month position with a contract period of July 1 through June 30.
