Description

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Any combination equivalent to:
      • high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a G.E.D. as required by Kentucky law.
  • Licenses and Other Requirements
    • Must complete training course for certification of beginning school food service personnel as prescribed in 702 KAR 6:045.  Pursuant to 7 CFR parts 210 and 235, employee must complete mandatory annual training requirements. 

 

Job Goals:  

  • Basic Function:
    • Preparation of food, serving food and cashiering activities related to the serving of food.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Essential Functions:
    • Prepare the food service facility for the serving of food.
    • Wash and prepare eating and serving areas
    • Maintain work areas and serving areas in a clean, sanitary and safe condition:  wash and clean counters and steam tables: wash and store pots, pans and trays and kitchen equipment.
    • Cook, Heat, portion and serve food to students and staff according to established procedures.
    • Assist in storing unused food and supplies: dispose of unusable leftovers and record appropriately.
    • Operate a variety of commercial kitchen equipment.
    • Maintain, prepare and review a variety if production records, inventories, log and reports:  accumulate data and input information into a computer as appropriate and file documents as necessary
    • Participate in and attend in-service meeting and workshops
    • Perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Knowledge and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge Of:
    • Meal production
    • Applicable district, federal and state laws, rules and regulations related to food service.
    • Quantity food preparation and food merchandising
    • Nutrition, sanitation and operations regulations and requirements.
    • Use and care of institutional equipment and utensils.
    • Proper lifting techniques
    • Health and safety rules and regulations pertaining to food establishments.
    • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
  • Ability To:
    • Ensure compliance with district, state and federal requirements.
    • Preparation and serving of large quantities
    • Serve food in accordance with health and sanitation regulations
    • Learn and follow health and sanitation requirements
    • Maintain food service equipment and areas in a clean and sanitary condition
    • Maintain accurate records
    • Understand and follow oral and written directions
    • Work cooperatively with others
    • Lift heavy objects
