Salary: $69,688 - $107,431 (Commensurate with Experience)

Description
To act in partnership with the principal in the operation of the total school program, to provide leadership for the staff of the school in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive educational program, and to administer the program in accordance with School Board policies and administrative regulations.To serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal.

Qualifications

  • Holds or is eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12.
  • At least three (3) years of successful, full-time experience as a teacher, supervisor, or administrator.
  • Has demonstrated the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, parents, central office, and the community at large.
  • Experience (preferred) in working with schools or school divisions that are in school improvement.
  • Experience in working with effective student discipline is preferred.


    Performance Responsibilities
    1.   Know and effectively communicate the Division's philosophy and mission.
    2.   Serve as acting principal in the absence of the principal if necessary.
    3.   Observe the in-class performance of teachers and confers and consults with them
          regarding their performance and their professional development.
    4.   Provide staff leadership to ensure understanding and promote the educational objectives
          of the Division and school.
    5.   Plan and administer programs of in-service educational activities for instructional
          personnel in cooperation with other Division level offices.
    6.   Coordinate all formal efforts of the professional staff in projects of curriculum
           improvement.
    7.    Work with principal and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade level
           or departmental meetings to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and
           articulation of the instructional program.
    8.    Keep abreast of and interpret for the staff current research in curriculum
           development.
    9.    Cooperate with the principal in implementing an ongoing evaluation of instruction and
           curriculum.
    10.   Supervise student conduct and extracurricular activities as assigned by the principal.
    11.   Partner with the principal in the management of administrative procedures.
    12.   Requisition supplies and equipment, conducting inventories, maintaining records and
            checking on receipts for such materials.
    13.   Cooperate in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill activities.
    14.   Assume responsibility for coordinating specific activities such as transportation, lunchroom
            and/or custodial services.
    15.   Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and works with the
            appropriate personnel for investigative follow-up actions.
    16.    Participate in Leadership Team Meetings, principals' staff meetings and such other meetings
             as required or deemed appropriate.
    17.    Serves as the School Testing Coordinator (STC).
    18.    Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities that are deemed
             appropriate by the Principal, Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent.


    Physical Requirements 
              Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
              Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and  to enter data into a computer.
              See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
              Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone.
              Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors,
                and on the telephone.
              Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
              Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds the ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs,
                walk and reach overhead.
              Administrative positions may require hearing, vision and physical coordination and/or exertion and effort
                in excess of those listed above.

    Terms of Employment
    Contract Length-Twelve Months
    FLSA Status-Exempt
    Salary to be established by the School Board in accordance with the Administrative Salary Scale.

    Evaluation
    Job performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the School Board's policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
