Function / Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to assist with the daily operations of the Maintenance Department. Responsible for obtaining bids and coordinating contracted work, and overall upkeep of all District facilities. Evaluate alternative methods and procedures for greater efficiency in the delivery of services. Maintain confidentiality of information in the department and in the community. Travel within the district and surrounding communities is a requirement
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and oversee maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and preventive maintenance standards.
- Supervise maintenance staff and operations across multiple sites and shifts, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the computerized preventive maintenance program, inspections, and scheduled repairs of facilities, equipment, and systems.
- Conduct regular facility inspections and respond promptly to maintenance requests, service issues, and
emergencies. - Review, assign, and monitor work orders; provide updates to the Coordinator of Maintenance.
- Collaborate with principals, custodial supervisors, and department leadership to align maintenance priorities with operational needs.
- Monitor staff schedules, timekeeping, and assignments to ensure coverage and adherence to budget.
- Participate in hiring, training, and evaluation of maintenance personnel; provide coaching, feedback, and professional development.
- Assist with department budget, including tracking expenditures, reviewing invoices, and initiating procurement of supplies, equipment, and contracted services.
- Develop project specifications, schedules, and cost estimates; assist with district-wide repairs and projects from planning to completion.
- Research and recommend equipment, tools, and practices that improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
- Enforce district policies, procedures, work rules, and safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with staff, administration, contractors, and other departments to coordinate special projects and/or events as needed.
- Respond to after-hours and emergency calls 24/7; work varied shifts as required to support operations.

Education
- College degree in Business (preferred) or a minimum of three to five years of maintenance services (or related industry) supervisory experience.
- Certified Professional Maintenance Manager (CPMM) credential preferred.
- Certified Plant Supervisor (CPS) credential preferred.
- Must hold a valid Illinois driver's license.
Experience / Knowledge
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years' supervisory experience in maintenance services, facilities management, or related field; experience in multi-site supervision preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, boilers, unit ventilators, air handlers, air compressors, fire alarm systems, security systems, plumbing, and general building maintenance.
- Knowledge of school operations and related maintenance/security considerations.
- Experience with planning, scheduling, budgeting, and personnel management.
- Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Strong computer skills, including Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Ability to read and interpret operating procedures, blueprints, technical manuals, diagrams, and specifications.
- Familiarity with Health/Life Safety codes, OSHA regulations, and ADA requirements.
- Ability to interview, train, motivate, and communicate objectives effectively with staff.
- Demonstrated ability to establish goals, set priorities, and achieve results.
Physical Demands
- Frequently work in active, fast-paced environments with unscheduled interruptions.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds with proper technique, operate lifts, and other equipment.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of facility and equipment inspection in buildings, on roofs, and in the field.
Terms of Employment
- 12-month work-year position.
- This is a Tuesday - Saturday: 9:00am to 6:00pm (T-F) and 6:00am - 3:00pm (S). Work hours will typically be 9am - 6pm; however, the position will require schedule flexibility, including evening and weekend availability to meet operational needs.
- Salary and benefits are established by the Board of Education.
- The salary range for this position is $60,243.00 - $90,353.00. Our typical practice is to hire in between the minimum and midpoint $75,298.00.
