Description:  Special Populations Transition Specialist, Full Time

Reports to:  Associate Director of Retention

Salary Range:  Nonexempt, $22.70 to $28.37 per hour based upon qualifications and experience; Grant Funded; excellent benefits package, linked here: Benefits At A Glance - Staff

Position Summary:  The Special Populations Transition Specialist will assist special populations students (as defined by Perkins V) with enrollment, retention, and transition into postsecondary education and employment. This person will help ensure students are provided a continuum of services to potentially span adult education instruction to High School Equivalency (HSE) graduation, to post-secondary education, and the workforce.  They will assist students in exploring careers, facilitate the evaluation of academic abilities, facilitate the assessment of prior learning, and setting goals.  This individual will also assist in marketing efforts directed towards this population of learner and provide needed resources related to student admission, enrollment, retention, completion and transition to employment.  Additionally, they will present academic information to orientation groups and potential students.

Qualifications:  Bachelor's Degree in Education, Adult Education, Psychology or related field and a minimum of one year of case management experience -OR- minimum of five years of case management experience -OR- seven years of equivalent experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved required.  Strong organization and communication skills required.  Experience serving adult learners and under-served populations in an advisory capacity; knowledge of adult learning theory; knowledge of community college culture; knowledge of career planning and employment search processes, tools and resources or professional development equivalent preferred.
