POSITION TITLE:                         Middle School Summer School Teachers

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD:              First Meeting - Early June - 1.5 hours  
                                                       Planning Days - Week of June 22 (specific dates will be shared in spring) 
                                                       Summer Program - June 29 - July 25, 2026 (No school July 3) 

 
TIMES:                                              8:00 am - 12:30 pm

POSITION LOCATION:                    Tappan Middle School

RATE OF PAY:                                  $41.59/hour

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:       Summer School Principal 



QUALIFICATIONS
The following is a list of qualifications for the position, any one of which may be waived by the Board of Education in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications:

  • Possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with middle level endorsements
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students who have academic difficulties desired

                                                                                                                            
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach District-approved curriculum.  
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and the times designated.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals  
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Evaluate pupil's academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Supervise classroom and students.
  • Other duties may be assigned. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Read, write and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

  • Add, subtract, and multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
